Father's Day present finally set up!

The kids and I didn't plan a huge Father's Day as Dh was going to be working and maybe working late. We cooked up a turkey hoping to spend a nice dinner together. We had planned a gift card to a Fishing/Hunting store or Canadian Tire. Along with maybe a shirt or hat. Instead the Friday morning before Father's Day I scanned the flyers fast as the kids and I were heading out to visit with Alyssa and he son from A Motherhood Experience.

Zeller's was having a midnight madness. There in the flyer was the BBQ Dh and I were looking at only a few weeks before saying just maybe we would spend the $449.99 plus tax on it, even though we do not like to buy full prize on things like that. So this flyer had the BBQ on at Zeller's for........$224.99!! Catch is the store closes at 5pm and opens up again at 6pm. You need to be in line and ready to run to the product you want as they are limited in how many each store has. This can be very deadly in my experience. People push and shove and get very rude over these sales. Do I even dare taking to kids and trying to buy a BBQ which the store may only have 2 of them?!?

I ventured out around 5:30pm and a line was starting. The kids and I waited in line for about 20 minutes and rushed to the BBQ section as soon as the doors opened. We were in luck we got ticket 8 out of 10 BBQ's!

Dh had some busy nights at work and didn't get a chance to put it together until Sunday June 26th...
We then enjoyed a nice BBQ of sausages and a big garden salad!

We made daddy very happy with his new BBQ. I can't wait to enjoy more meals on the BBQ and outside on our nice patio when I get finished sprucing it up! Keep an eye out for the post about our patio.

$50 bike fine?!?

Biking is great for your health and also for the environment. Also I love to get out and just bike with no where I need to get too just tour around and have fun. There are a lot of rules of the road that still need to be followed as a cyclist to make it a safe activity.

This video is from the USA but we also have laws in Ontario Canada that bicyclist have to abide by.

Did you know that in Ontario lights and a bell are mandatory on your bike?
Lights
a bike must have a white front light and a red rear light or reflector if you ride between 1/2 hour before sunset and 1/2 hour after sunrise and white reflective tape on the front forks and red reflective tape on rear forks. Set fine: $20.00
Bell
a bike must have a bell or horn in good working order. Set fine: $85.00
To read all the laws of the road please check out the Ministry of Transportation website.

Dempster's Thin Bagels Review

Have you seen the new bagels from Dempster's? Now we can have the best of both world's, eat bagels and not reach our daily carbohydrate limit in one sitting. Mind you I do love my carbs but my belly doesn't.

These new thin bagels are a 100 calories per bagel, tiny enough for a snack or a nice breakfast paired with fruit and yogurt. This are also great for little ones, a lot less likely to waste.

They are available in 3 varieties, Cinnamon Raisin, Multigrain and White with Wholegrains. I have tried the first two as it has been really hard to find them in my area. They are very good with butter, peanut butter or cream cheese.

If you would like to check out more about Dempster's new Thin Bagels visit Maple Leaf Food Website or connect on Facebook.

Ari Hest Review

After posting about Ari Hest and his Mother's Day video I did a little more investigation about Ari Hest and I find out this man has the BEST voice ever! Check out this video I found on YouTube.com of Hallelujah. It is Amazing. I think I have found a new favorite singer.

After finding this video I had the opportunity to review Ari Hest's newest album called Sunset Over Hope Street. This released March 1st,2011. This is Ari's first full length album in four years with Downtown Mercers' Record Street.

Back in 2008 Ari worked on a project by utilizing all the technology available to him and came up with 52 which involved Ari writing, recording and releasing a new song every Monday for an entire year or 52 weeks! These were released online and at the end of the year Ari had fans vote for their favourite 12 which later became his new album in 2009 titled Twelve Mondays. During this project Ari explored different genres and experimented with new instrumentation. He also had 40 unreleased songs under his belt, Ari keep on writing and experimenting until the end result was Sunset Over Hope Street.
My take on this album.. I love it! Ari's voice is so soothing and the music is a soft rock type. My favourite song I would have to say is Give It Time - Something about the lyrics and voice combined with his light music just makes this my go to song on the album.

Why not check it out for yourself on iTunes, visit Ari Hest's Website or connect with Ari on Facebook or Twitter!

BeadedEmbellishments Review

In the beginning of May I entered a giveaway that was being sponsored by BeadedEmbellishments. To my surprise I received an email mid-May to tell me that I won! This is what I won all nicely packaged in yellow tissue paper with a black flower....
Aren't they beautiful? They are Geometric Amethyst Swarovski Sterling Silver Earrings.

A quick write up from the blog I won them on "This is a pair of unique geometric earrings which were designed using a combination of different shapes and colours. The focal area of these earrings is the light amethyst artemis Swarovski crystal bead in a cone shape with faceting along its length. Nestled into the beveled bottom end of the artemis bead is a dark amethyst faceted round Swarovski crystal and  a similar but smaller dark amethyst crystal sits on top to add interest and a pop of colour. These earrings dangle beneath a sterling silver ring which is attached to hook style earrings. They measure 40mm in length and come with PVC clutch backings for added security. (ARV $24)"

Denise is the owner over at BeadedEmbellishments, an Etsy shop full of beautiful beaded jewelry. I want to also mention that Denise is from Ontario Canada! Denise has been making jewelry for more than 10 years. She started making for herself, friends and family and then decided to open her own Etsy shop. Denise only uses 925 Sterling Silver in her designs and not silver plated or base metals as these do not hold up well over time. Also she uses Swarovski Crystals as opposed to Czech glass beads because of their outstanding quality and brilliance and also because of their reputation of excellence.

I love my new earrings! I have had many nice comments while wearing these. The quality is great and the customer service is wonderful. They were shipped fast and packaged beautifully. I normally do not wear dangle type earrings as I work in a health care field and also have smaller children so I am not sure to them being a bit heavier than stud earrings. I did get used to that after a couple wears. Denise sells her jewelry fairly priced for the quality of Canadian handmade products you receive. Her earrings range from $22-$42 and shipping is $2.99 for the first item.

So Nice for Coffee Review

I love coffee, waking up without coffee is very upsetting in this house for sure. I usually consume one to two cups a day. I am not a huge coffee drinker but I do love that morning and sometimes mid-afternoon coffee. I should let you know my cups are bigger than the average 8oz mugs. I love coffee creamer also. I do have intolerance to milk and don’t drink milk often, just in my coffee. I have been also watching to make sure I consume foods that are lower in cholesterol or cholesterol free as I have been lucky to inherit my father’s high cholesterol and found this out a couple years ago.

So Nice offers a variety of fortified soy beverages they are fortified with calcium, vitamins A, D2, B12, and riboflavin to enhance nutritional value. They are low in fat and calories, high in protein, as well as being lactose, cholesterol and gluten free.

So Nice for Coffee is a 2010 finalist in the Canadian Grand Prix New Product Awards and has just recently hit stores throughout Canada.

Want to try a recipe with So Nice for Coffee

Thai Iced Coffee
  • 3 tbsp. ground, dark-roast coffee
  • 1 tbsp. ground cardamon
  • 1 pinch of ground coriander seed
  • 3 cups of water
  • 1/2 cup of So Nice for Coffee creamer
  • 1/4 cup of raw sugar
  • 1/4 cup of water
Instructions:
  1. Mix the ground coffee with the cardamon and coriander. Brew the coffee mixture.
  2. While the coffee is brewing, reduce the 1/2 cup of So Nice for Coffee creamer down to a 1/4 cup (medium heat). Remove from heat once reduced.
  3. In a separate pot, mix the sugar and water and bring to boil. Remove from heat once mixture becomes syrupy.
  4. Combine the coffee, creamer and syrup together. Mix well.
  5. Add 1 cup of ice cups and chill in the refrigerator for 20 minutes (or until cold).
Serves 3.

I have not yet tried this recipe but if you do, let me know what you think!

You can find more recipes and information about So Nice on their website or connect with them on Facebook or on Twitter

My experience with So Nice for Coffee has been great one for sure. I love the smooth texture and the taste really taste like creamer. I was a little afraid as I have tried soy beverage in my coffee and didn't like it at all. I love soy beverage alone and in smoothies but not in my coffee until I tried this. The So Nice for Coffee is not as think as regular milk 18% coffee creamer but I for one can't drink much of that in my coffee anyways, I will sometimes put half cream half milk. This I can use pure and all the benefits one gets from drinking this creamer is great in itself. It is also comparable in price to other cream especially since it is organic in my area it is regular $2.29. Two thumbs up from Canadian Coupon Mom!!

Harris House Teas Review

My little girl loves having a tea party with her dolls, teddy and her best friend S. What makes a tea party better? Real tea for the little girls. I have recently discovered a Tea business within Canada, actually within Ontario who sells a wide range of teas. All natural loose leaf teas: Black, white, green, organic, tradition herbs, chai, decaffeinated, matcha, herb and fruit, rooibos, estate, blooming artisan and English and breakfast. I didn't know there are so many different kinds until I visited Harris House Teas.

Harris House Teas was started by Tanya Harris to prepare herself in being a "stay at home" mom. Tanya wanted to have her children see that you never give up on any dreams. Tanya's dream has been to own her own tea room some day. Tanya is currently expecting her first child in August and is excited to have the opportunity to try and work from home raising her children all the while working towards her tea room. Tanya says "it all happens one step at a time but a journey of a thousand miles cannot be made without taking the first steps, or first sip."

I would like to tell you more about the Herb & Fruit tea as this has become a huge favorite in our house. Harris Teas offers 5 different kinds of Herb & Fruit teas these are a great alternative to sugary drinks. These teas have no sugar and are chocked full of vitamin C. The teas are great either warm or as an iced tea. What better way to spend a warm day then having a little picnic and enjoying some fresh natural iced tea.

Choose from Harris House Teas Five different Herb & Fruit Teas:

Tropical Rainbow: a nice blend of orange and pineapple.  Luxury natural dried apple pieces, Natural dried Orange, Hibiscus, Rosehip, Natural flavors.

Bumblebeelicious: lively, bright and full of energy. Luxury natural dried apple, Rosehip, Hibiscus, Natural dried orange, Cornflower, Rose petals, Blackberry leaves, Natural flavors.

Cranberry Apple: Full flavored and pungent with a rich fruity character. Try our custom blending service and add Mekong Cinnamon or a few cloves for an exotic mulled spiced tea. Luxury natural dried apple pieces, Hibiscus, Rosehip, Natural flavors.

Teddy Bear Picnic: A terrific tasting tea for kids. A candy-like caramel flavor gives natural sweetness with berries for depth and flavor. Rich in Vitamin C.Luxury natural dried apple pieces, Hibiscus, Rosehip, Natural dried orange peel, Elderberries, Natural dried black currants, Rose petals, Calendula petals, Cornflower petals, Red Thistle, Natural flavors.

Secret Garden Berry: Wildberry currant and fruity, tending sweet with a slight tart character. A must for a childrens' tea party. Rich in Vitamin C. Try serving as popsicles for a hot summer treat. Luxury natural dried apple pieces, Hibiscus, Rosehip, Cornflower petals, Natural dried currants, Elderberries, Natural flavors.

You can purchase all these great teas in either a bag or tin in either 50g or 100g ranging from $4.99 to $10.23 plus shipping but Harris House Teas does offer free shipping from time to time if you spend $60. If you don't want to spend $60 the easiest way I find is to get a few friends together and put in a big order together.

Visit Harris House Teas to see all the great choices of teas available. Also visit them on Twitter and Facebook.
Our experience with Harris House Teas has been great from the very beginning. This lovely package arrived that smelled so tasty. I am sure my neighbors were wondering how come their mail smelled so good. The chocolate lovers tea is divine, very nice flavors not over powering at all. The teddy bear picnic was very fun with the kids especially A as we had a tea party together with her baby dolls. The customer service was also great with Tanya and the shipping was super fast.

Subway Breakfast Sandwich Review

I had the chance to try Subway’s breakfast sandwich a couple weeks ago when Subway offered their breakfast combo for free. I took A with me and we went with a friend and her little girl (who is A’s best friend at the moment). This free breakfast seemed to bring a ton of traffic to Subway as our local Subway line was almost out the door. Mind you are Subway is tiny.

The breakfast combo is a ham and cheese on an English muffin. A, went with cucumber and tomato. May I add I understand this was free but 1 of each? Okay so on to mine. I got a tomato and lettuce. I got my coffee and A got a chocolate milk and we went to sit down. A took one bite and sat back. I took a bite and thought this could be a lot better. Right away my friend and I agreed that the English muffin could have been toasted more. The whole sandwich didn’t seem like it had much taste to it. Maybe it would have tasted better with some pepper or something but it was lacking taste for sure. The eggs really didn’t taste like eggs and the best part was the tiny piece of ham that was on it. A didn’t finish hers she brought it home to eat for later. In the end I wouldn’t pay the $2.99 to have a breakfast out at Subway.

Other Uses for the Bagnetic Giant Clip

If you have been following Canadian Coupon Mom for a while you may remember a review and interview I did about reusable grocery bags that are magnetic and Canadian made.

These bags are awesome! They are washable, sturdy and can hold up to 40 lbs not that most people would put forty pounds of groceries in them. I have put a lot in them though.

I have been using my bags ever since reviewing these bags and I still LOVE them and they are still in great shape! The little hole that happened in one did not fray or open anymore just like promised.

I also love using my Giant clip that came with the family pack. I use it to carry my milk home from the store so the bags do not dig into my hands. I use it to hold extra bags on my stroller when the kids and I are out walking. I also use this clip as a handle for my children to hold onto the stroller as I am pushing and can’t hold their hand. It is great for this! My children don’t mind holding it either almost easier than holding the edge of the stroller which is what they used to do.
This is my daughter showing how the giant clip can be used as a handle on the side of the stroller.

This is a great way to keep kids safe as you are walking with a few. My son has always held onto the edge of the stroller to stay close and safe while we are walking especially through busy areas and parking lots.

Thanks Bagnetic!

Cadbury Bicycle Factory Giveaway

With summer almost here and the weather being pretty nice we can finally call it bicycle weather! As a child I remember running outside and hopping on my bike touring the neighborhood. It was one of my favorite things to do once the warm weather came. Bikes are a great way of traveling, better for the environment and also a lot cheaper on gas. They are not just for children's enjoyment but also a mode of transportation for a lot of people around the world.

Cadbury has opened the Factory doors for a third year in a row. What factory you may ask? Cadbury has been opening a Bicycle Factory for the last three summers making bicycles for Ghana. Bicycles are everything to the people of Ghana. Since 2009, 9332 bikes have been built and delivered to Ghana. Please take a look at this video. (watch carefully as I will be asking you a question from it).

How Can I help? Running for a limited over the summer Canadians are able to purchase participating Cadbury products and upload the UPC to The Bicycle Factory. Each UPC code equals one virtual bike part. For every 100 parts donated, one real bike is created and delivered to communities in Ghana.
Check out all the great videos and information about The Bicycle Factory on their website, don't forget to watch the Documentary also.

Kodak Easy Share Sports Camera Review

I love taking pictures! I am almost always thinking "oh that would be a great picture". I also have two young children who have a hard time sitting still and are always on the move. This has resulted in some blurred pictures for sure. I have been looking for a great sports camera something with a flash that is quick to get back up and running and also something that can take great action photos. I was also looking for something for a reasonable price.

Let me introduce you to the new Kodak EASYSHARE Sport. This camera sells for $79.95 Canadian on the Kodak website.
This camera has some really nice features. It is a 12 Megapixel with a 6.1cm LCD. The zoom is 5X advanced digital. Big feature for the Sport, it is Waterproof up to 10 Feet! It is also Dust proof. Life happens especially with children and its great to know that your camera won't be ruined if it gets wet. Also with the waterproof feature there is the option to take stills or video. It also white balances underwater!

We are a very active family when summer time comes. We spend most of the time at the park, beach, or at the soccer field. I am almost afraid to bring a camera with me to the beach because of the sand and water. With EASYSHARE Sport I can take all those fun summer time photos without worrying and I can get some fun underwater shots also.

Another great feature is the EASYSHARE Share button. This is the only camera with a 3-step sharing button.
  • Step 1—Just press Share when in review mode
  • Step 2—Choose your favorite sharing destination, e-mail address, or KODAK PULSE Digital Frame
  • Step 3—Connect your camera to your computer or insert your memory card and your videos or pictures are automatically uploaded to the destination(s)
This button is so easy to use and will help with sharing your photos with your family and friends online on pretty much any social site you use, Twitter, Facebook, email etc.
My children right before we left on vacation!
My thoughts after spending a couple weeks playing around with this camera. Overall I love it. There are some con's but I will begin with the pros of the camera. It is inexpensive for a digital camera, and for the price you get really great features. If you would like a easy way to share your photos online this is a great camera, press the share button in the review mode and when you plug it into the PC it will automatically share on the selected sites for you. I love the waterproof and dust proof features, now I don't worry about the camera getting wet and can enjoy taking beach and summertime photos. It is small enough to put in my pocket but big enough that I don't feel I will lose it. I also like the size as my 5 year old had no problems learning to take photos with this camera. He took some great shoots. Here is one...........
For the cons, I do find it can be grainy, mostly when trying to zoom in really close. I love to have a good zoom and this one didn't cut it for some wildlife I was trying to take pictures of. I did get the picture but it could have been better.
In the end? I say this is one great Sporty camera. The flash also boots back up really fast after the first picture is taken which for me was one thing I didn't like about my other camera. We were unable to give it a great test underwater but play to as soon as the weather allows us to. This past weekend was chilly but I was able to try it out a little. I got a few photos taken underwater. I pulled the camera out of the water and the water just beaded off the camera. The memory card and batteries safe and sound. Just make sure to wipe away any remaining water from the lens after or you will end up with water makes on the next photo.
P's feet from underwater :)

Treehouse TV and The Big Comfy Couch Tour

My kids still love the Treehouse TV channel! It is a channel that rarely gets changed from. They will usually protests as they want either Dora, Diego, Chuggington, My Little Pony or one of the other numerous shows they enjoy from Treehouse. My kids do not watch a lot of tv, usually a bit in the morning and then some in the afternoon/evening and I don't mind them at all watching treehouse.

Treehouse TV along with Kidomo bring our children's favourite characters to life right before their eyes. I have taken my children a couple times to these great little shows. They offer them in local malls across Ontario free of charge and usually they are giving out posters or little samples, promotional items for the children.

We have seen Barney, Fifi and Toopy and Binoo. My children loved both shows, they are very interactive and just long enough for small children to start entertained.

This Springs line up includes the Big Comfy Couch who will be touring all over Ontario starting with Toronto in May and even a few visit out West to end the tour. Check out the Spring schedule to see if there is a stop near you. The Big Comfy Couch will be in Ottawa June 25 and 26,2011 with two shows at 11am and 2pm.

If you are in the Toronto area and can visit Ontario Place, check out the schedule for all the great shows on this summer!
