The Darkness We Hide (The Undertaker's Daughter #3) by Debra Webb ~ Book Review

Book Description:

Some secrets are worth dying for.

For months, Doctor Rowan Dupont has been staring death in the face. It followed her back to her hometown of Winchester, Tennessee, ten months ago, cloaking the walls of her family’s Victorian funeral home like a shroud. In investigating the mysterious deaths of her loved ones, Rowan has unearthed enough family secrets to bury everything she’d previously thought true. But each shocking discovery has only led to more bodies and more questions; the rabbit hole is deeper than she ever imagined.

Despite settling in to a comfortable life with Police Chief Billy Brannigan, Rowan knows dangerous serial killer Julian Addington is still out there. She can’t let her guard down now. Not when she’s this close to ending his torment once and for all. But with a storm brewing on the horizon, she’ll get only one shot before the impending darkness takes hold, threatening to wipe away every truth she’s uncovered—and everything she holds dear.

Review:

This is book #3 in the Undertaker's Daughter series. I have only read book 2&3 but I just loved this series. I have book #1 on my TBR pile for hopefully over the winter. I love how the author can make characters that you just fall in love with, keep you turning the page to see what will happen next with all the suspense, secrets and lies and also of course those nasty characters that you hope don't make it to the end. This book could definitely be read as a stand alone because the author does do a fantastic job at summarizing the other two books into this one for anyone new but also doesn't over do it and bore the reads that have read the previous books.

So many lies, family secrets get uncovered in this book. Rowan has to be one of my favourite characters - likable, relatable, caring, badass, plus I just love her dog.

With all the suspense in this novel there is still time for a budding romance! It was hard to put this book down. I can't wait to read other series by Debra Webb. I give this book a 4 out of 5 stars.

Review:

This one was good but not favourite. I enjoy the authors writing style and the plot but I wasn't really a fan of any of the characters. I just didn't feel like the characters came to life for me and they weren't really likable characters. It is definitely a psychological thriller with some unexpected twists. I did find about three quarters through I had guessed where the story was heading. It did still keep me wondering if I would be right about it.  I give this book a 3 stars just because it didn't hold me throughout the whole journey. I have read a few of Mary Kubica's books and do look forward to the next one.
