Author Spotlight Saturday ~ Interview with Hanna Peach

Welcome Hanna Peach to Genuine Jenn! Congratulations on the new release this week! We are so excited to have you here to chat with us about your writing and Girl Wife Prisoner.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and why/what inspired you to write? When did you start writing?

I was a voracious reader from the time I could hold a book in my hands. Then I had an English teacher at a young age encourage my writing so the seed was planted there. Since then I was always writing things just for fun, like, at 18-19 years I wrote a serial dark fantasy when I was bored at work (oops) and sent the installments out every day just before work ended. I got serious about writing in my early twenties after working in a few “real” jobs and realizing I didn’t fit and I didn’t want to be there.

What was your inspiration for ‘Girl Wife Prisoner'?

I watched the movie The Godfather and was struck by Michael’s extreme change in character from a good guy to a mafia king. For days I was obsessed with the question, what would make a “good” person do “bad” things? And then a few of my GWP characters were born.

What three words would you use to best describe Girl Wife Prisoner?

Dark, tragic, hope.

Can you tell us if you’re working on anything else at the moment?

I’m always working on something ;)

I’m finishing up final proofreads for Drake’s Novella (from Girl Wife Prisoner) and I am writing a first draft of a psychological thriller/romance called Paper Dolls about a woman who is torn between love and blood when her unstable twin sister tries to turn her against the man she loves.

What was your very first book that you wrote?

lol, I wrote an autobiography of my life when I was 7 entitled ‘Go Suck a Lemon’.

Other than your own, what are your favourite books?

Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier, The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern, Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor, Archer’s Voice by Mia Sheridan, Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen.

When you are writing do you like to listen to music? What is on your playlist?

Hell no! I’ll just end up singing along if there’s music.

Who is your favorite character in your books?

Drake from Girl Wife Prisoner! He is a complex antihero. Haha, but I’m biased because I just finished writing his novella ;)

Do you ever take characteristics or nuances from close friends or family when working on character development and if so has that friend or family member noticed and what was their response to it?

...I deny everything.

Haha, but seriously... when I write characters with flaws I want them to be understandable and for my reader to be able to relate. I will sometimes study and “borrow” flaws from people I know because I understand and can relate to the people I love. But no one has noticed. Yet.
What they have noticed is when I “borrow” some conversations or great lines from them ;)

What’s your favorite treat?

Chocolate! And Coffee!

What’s your Favorite place to read/write?

I like to write at my dining table because I have an entire wall covered in notes and flow charts for my writing in front of me. But I’ll read in bed.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?

Aww man. Just one? Of all the places I’ve lived in (I’ve lived in 7 different countries) I loved Edinburgh, Scotland the most. I just can’t stand their winters. I’m a sun chaser. So… I’d live in Edinburgh and Croatia for the European Summer then go back to Australia for their summer.

About the Author:

Hanna is the bestselling author of the Bound romantic suspense series and the Dark Angel fantasy series. Although she writes in more than one genre she can’t write a book without weaving together a complicated plot and filling it with twists. She writes what she believes: good people can do bad things, ordinary people can do great things, and choose love above everything.

Eternally restless, Hanna has lived in Indonesia, Australia, Germany, Scotland, England, Croatia and Ireland - everything she owns fits into one suitcase. She's planning her next move with her gorgeous (and understanding) partner right now. If not writing, she can be found wandering a dusty market in Marrakesh or trekking a mountain in Peru, often using her travels as settings in her novels.
