National Breakfast Day with Kellogg's #shareyourbreakfast

Having a healthy breakfast each morning is a great way to get our bodies ready to take on our day. This gives us the energy that we need to focus and be productive throughout the morning. Imagine a child sitting at their desk that hasn't had breakfast; all that they can think about is the grumbling belly. Some children go to school hungry as this isn't a choice for them. Hunger is also a problem in Canada.

Thursday March 8th is National Breakfast Day and Kellogg’s has partnered with Breakfast Clubs of Canada and Breakfast for Learning to launch the Share Your Breakfast program to encourage Canadians to help children who might otherwise go without.

Fruit & Yogurt Breakfast

Today's recipe is a guest post from my 5 year old son, Mr Magoo. Yesterday morning Mr Magoo came to wake me up and ask if he could make breakfast. I told him go right ahead. Normally he would make a bowl of cereal. This morning was different. He didn't want to make cereal for himself. He wanted to make breakfast for everyone (Mom, Abbagator and himself).
As I got up he was already at the table with the ingredients for his breakfast.

Mr. Magoo's Fruit & Yogurt Breakfast
(serves 3)

Ingredients:
1- Banana
6- Strawberries
1 1/2 cups Yogurt (we used Vanilla)

Directions:
  • Cut Banana's and Strawberries.
  • Spoon out 1/2 cup yogurt into serving bowls
  • Add Banana's and Strawberries to yogurt
  • Enjoy
Mr. Magoo hopes everyone enjoys this recipe and leaves him a message. After him helping me type this up he told me when he turns 7 years old he wants his own blog. haha a blogger in the making?

HairThingz Review & G!veaway!

My daughter has long beautiful straight hair. We were both blessed or cursed with thin hair. Having thing hair comes some problems. Two main problems I have had and I am finding it the same with my daughter is thin hair is easy to tangle and we always have a hard time keeping in elastics, especially at night.

Just recently I have been introduced to HairThingz; these fun and bright plastic hair ties. They are meant to keep you kids hair up and out of the way. Just what we have been looking for.
HairThingz were created and tested by a mom. They are made in the USA and are made from recyclable material. A fun and bright new hair product for girls. They are easy to use once you get the hang of them; I had to play around with them a few times as I am left handed and was having a bit of problems holding the hair and wrapping the HairThingz around at the same time.
Once I got a hang of it they are really fun, they can be used in many different hair styles and A was excited to try out a bunch of new styles with her new HairThingz. Even the name is fun!

They retail for $5.99 for a pack of 12, visit HairThingz to order.

Don't forget to "Like" HairThingz on Facebook and follow on Twitter @HairThingz

Want to win two packs of HairThingz? Enter on the Rafflecopter form below. As an extra bonus refer your friends and ask them to fill in your name in the Referred by a Friend entry. If your friend wins you win also!

Fit & Firm Fridays

Last week I totally missed posting a quick update and for that I am sorry. I am really not sure if anyone is following this but if you are I haven't totally even up on the healthy lifestyle just yet. haha

With all the snow we have gotten in the last couple big snow falls I have been doing some great workouts in our driveway! It can be a lot of work clearing out the end of a double (well it actually fits four vehicles in total) lane driveway.

I haven't lost any weight yet but I also haven't gained any; that's a good thing right?

I still need to work on the drinking more water. I just don't like tap water and at work that is pretty much all we have available. I need to figure out a solution to this problem as I do find myself thirsty overnight. I have been pretty good with the snacking. Usually a bowl of cereal in the early am and maybe veggies or a fruit at night. I have been trying to have a snack before work if I am hungry but lately I haven't been!

I am thinking about getting myself on more vitamins to health with the getting and staying healthy part. A B12 vitamin and a multi-vitamin are both good ideas and I have been on those both. It is to remember to take them daily.

I have been walking a lot more. We (kids and I) have taken longer walks to the store or the park. I have been walking to any place that is in the downtown area and briskly walk when the kids are not with me. I had 2 nice walks today already. I found out we have a walking track at our community centre and may just have to venture over there someday soon.
Also found a tasty sweet snack Chocolate Chip Fudgie Cups made with Equal!

Cook'n Recipe Organizer

Since for as long as I can remember I have loved reading cookbooks and food website for recipes. Now I will admit I have a lot ones we have tried from online organized but not all. I also have lost links for the source of these recipes as a lot of them were copy and paste in word and then printed.

Recently I have been introduced to a software that will help to organize your recipes and also add to your collection! Cook'n Recipe Organizer is great little tool that has so many features to make finding, sorting, storing, transferring, making a cookbook, meal planning and grocery lists so easy.
Check out the review I did over on Marvelous Mommy Meals and don't forget to enter the giveaway to win your own copy! If you would like to purchase this great software use coupon code mb-couponmom to receive 50% off your purchase until March 15th, 2012.

Happy March 1st!

Happy March 1st! In like a Lion and out like a Lamb. I wonder if this old saying will stand true this year. Today I awoke to the buses being cancelled and lots of snow outside.

I have said it before and I will say it again, I am ready for spring! Why more snow? I know I live in Canada and we get snow sometimes in April but come on! I am quite happy with having no more snow this winter.

Seems like my kids have been getting all the snow days also. They only go to school alternate days and alternate Fridays. Each time they have had snow days I have been working and I don't get home until 10am. My son has a hard time with not going to school. He gets pretty upset when the buses are cancelled and didn't understand why I couldn't drive him those other days. I made him a promise that if I was home the morning the buses are cancelled I would drive them. Well I had to keep with that promise right?
They were very excited to be "pick ups" today and helped back all their snacks for lunch and snack time and put everything in their backpacks. They moved faster today then bus days!

What are you doing today if you were fortunate or unfortunate for a snow day? There are lots of In like a Lion out like a Lamb type crafts when I went on Google this morning before the kids said they wanted to go to school.

Cook'n Recipe Organizer Review & Giveaway Extened

As you all should know by now I love cooking and I have a ton of recipes. You could say I have a recipe addiction, I have been collecting recipes for as long as I can remember. Once I got online as a teen I was in heaven with all the recipes at my finger tips. I still love my hard copy cookbooks but I have also wished I could transfer some of my all time favorites to my cookbook I have made out of a BIG white binder.

I recently had the chance to check out a very neat software that is right up my ally. Cook'n Recipe Organizer is a great software pack with all kinds of things you can do from choosing recipes from the preloaded recipes, make your own recipe book - either from the preloaded recipes, online or your family favorites.
Want to menu plan with all these great recipes all in one spot? Simple just click on the Menu button on the top bar. Then choose from daily, weekly, monthly, even which meals you would like to include.

Need a grocery list for all the ingredients in your recipe? Hit the List button and it will compile a grocery list. I love how it also has a spot to check out if you have something. It does include prices but these wont be accurate as prices change from Country to Country and also just change period.
The make your own recipe book is really nice as you can even make it with fun backgrounds (there are about 10 themes and some to download on the website). Making your own cookbook is easy and fun with Cook'n Recipe Organizer. You can name your cookbook, add sections and then it will make an index of your recipes for you. You can then take it to a local book printing store and have your cookbook printed. These would make great Holiday presents.

Do you have family recipes that have been handed down to you? now you can add them easily to Cook'n software. It's quick and easy with the auto-fill, to help fill the in the words as you go.

I would say my favorite feature is the capture. When you are on the home page of the software you will see a search and you can search online for recipes from your favorite sites and blogs and when you find what you want hit the "capture" button the the top of the software. It will pull all the information into a recipe card and you can then save it to your cookbook. Neat right?
Want to add more cookbooks? Cook'n offers a huge line cookbooks starting as low as 99 cents! They are easy to download and import into the software

I really think this program is great for anyone wanting to keep all their recipes in one spot. I can't wait to spend more time to add our favorites to our own cookbook. I am also excited to see the App when it is available. This will let the user sync a recipe to a tablet or iPhone.

Want to try out this software for yourself? Our friends at Cook'n is offering Marvelous Mommy Meals a coupon code for 50% off the regular price of $79.95. Use coupon code - mb-couponmom. This coupon code does expire on March 15,2012.

Want to win a copy? Please fill in the Rafflecopter form below to enter. This is open Worldwide and will end on March 15th 22nd at 12:01 am EST. Good Luck!
