Checkout 51 iPhone App Review

I am always looking for ways to save money on our groceries, from coupons, to shopping sales, bulk foods and meat orders. We usually stick to our small food budget for the week and still have plenty of tasty food. Recently I was introduced to another way to save money while out grocery shopping. This is a bit different from the usual and it is only available to Canada and at the moment iPhone users - Checkout 51.

This is a user friendly app that has specials each week starting on Thursday at 12am EST. Getting started is very easy, add the app to your iPhone, sign in with a Facebook account or make an account with an email address.

Check each week for the products that are available to save money on. It is sort of like couponing but you don't clip you just need to save your receipt. Then you upload a photo of your receipt in the app and check off which products are on that receipt. Each product can be claimed only once during the time frame (Thursday - Wednesday). You can use it even if you use a coupon in store or the item is on sale, add bonus!

When your account hits $20 you will be mail a cheque!

This week you can save on the following:
  • Delissio pizza, any variety, excludes garlic breads. Cash back: $1.50
  • Tostitos Salsa, any size, excludes dips and Salsa Con Queso. Cash back: $1.00
  • Popchips, 85 g or more, any flavour. Cash back: $1.00
  • Club House products, any Club House product. Cash back: $0.50
  • Unico olives, 375 mL or more in cans or jars. Cash back: $0.50
  • Gay Lea Sour Cream, 250 mL or more, any variety. Cash back: $0.50
  • Carnation Evaporated Milk, 370 mL, any variety. Cash back: $0.50
  • French's Mustard, any variety. Cash back: $0.50
  • Ocean Spray Cranberry Cocktail, 1.89 L or more, any flavour. Cash back: $0.50
  • VH sauces, any variety. Cash back: $0.50
My thoughts: I find this to be a super easy app to use and a great way to add some extra savings to our grocery budget. I figure with the check we will either add it to our savings/date night or throw it back into groceries when we want to spend a bit more or have a special meal. It is a 3 step process - check app, shop and submit receipt, just minutes. Also the people behind Checkout 51 have been super nice and helpful. They quickly helped me fix my account after losing my facebook (which is how I signed into the app).

Field Agent: Make Money with your Smart Phone

Everyone is looking for some way or another to make a bit more cash. Either by selling used items online, home based businesses to stuffing envelopes (does this one actually pay well?). If you own a iPhone and go shopping why not make a few extra dollars while you are in the store. It is easy as taking a couple pictures and answer a couple questions about specific inventory. Wouldn't that be a great way to get a bit more pocket money?

Field Agent is a fairly new app in Canada that will do just that, launched in October 2011. This is a consumer type survey but with a modern day twist. Think Charlies Angels meet James bond, sneaking around with your iPhone. Okay okay maybe not but I had fun on my recent mission. It is very easy to do, download the app, set up an account then check in daily to see available jobs in your area and accept the mission. You will have a 2 hour window to complete the task.

I love how interactive Field Agent is with their agents. I got an email one night looking for agents in a few different areas (really small towns), one being a town I drive through to get to and from work. I emailed Jeff from Field Agent to let him know I could go to the store in the morning and he emailed me back right away. Such a friendly guy and makes you feel like you are part of a great team.
I went on my mission which had me looking in the frozen seafood area for a specific brand (they gave me a photo of what to look for along with the UPC code to make sure it was the right product), I was to take a photo and count how many they had on the shelf. The task had me look for 2 different products in the frozen seafood area. It was pretty simple once I figured out the store as I don't know this store that well. I also saw a great sale on toilet paper. In the end I got my toilet paper free because I earned $6 for this mission and my purchase was $5.97. Score!

Right now Field Agent has 8400 agents that have downloaded the app and making money while shopping. They have a goal of 10000 agents, the more agents the more missions that will be available. Right now they are looking for tons of agents in the smaller areas in Ontario, Quebec and Nova Scotia but everyone is welcome to join free of charge.

Field Agents can take on jobs in their area or in another area they live near or are visiting. Payment is easy and at anytime you can transfer your funds to your PayPal account. Each job pay is determined based on level of difficulty and time. The pay ranges from $3-$8.

Here is a quick video about Field Agent:
Follow Field Agent on Twitter @FieldAgentCA and also on Facebook. Visit Field Agent to download the app to get started, it is very easy and you will reap great rewards being part of a great group if agents.

Get Cracking Eggs.ca App Review

I love eggs, so does my husband and we usually eat them every other weekend for breakfast and then at least once in between. I even just love having a plain hard boiled egg. I recently posted how to hard boil an egg. I went to Egg Farmers of Canada to check out some recipes and found that they have an app. There is really an app I think for everything. Anyways this is an Egg Timer app but also includes tips on freshness of eggs, cooking and storing along with great recipes. I thought I would share my thoughts on this app.

Isn't he cute?! After downloading this app it is very easy to use. It will open up to this:
You can chose Boiled, Scrambled, Fried, or Poached. Once you click on it you will then be asked what size egg and how well done do you like it.
From there you will get instructions and a timer to make your perfect eggs. The timer is an sand timer hour glass. Very cute.
I love that this app also includes recipes for many dishes that includes eggs from breakfast to dinner meals, even kid friendly! There are a lot of ways to search for a recipe by meal, by style of egg (fried, poached, scrambled, boiled) by ingredient or by A-Z search. The recipes are quick and easy to follow.
Last but not least there are also videos and tips that are very helpful. I highly recommend this app for anyone that loves eggs and wants a quick resource at their finger tips.

Visit Egg Farmers of Canada to pick up your free app (available for iPhone and Androids) and check out all their great information and recipes.

Tracking your Coupon Savings

Wouldn't it be great to have an easy way to track your coupon savings with Canadian stores? One that will update automatically to your blog and share on Facebook?

That is excatly what I was looking for since there seems to be tons out there for Americans. I love using coupon's and I would love to know how much in a year I have saved just from using them.

I was contacted by Lina of GroceryAlerts.ca to try out their coupon tracker. The coupon tracker is a tool that allows people to track how much they save annually using coupons and post it to their Facebook wall, website/blog or save it to Excel. You simply log into Facebook, enter how much you saved dollar wise, what store you bought at and on what date. You then click Submit coupon savings. When you are all done putting in your recent coupons you can share it on your Facebook wall or your blog. It will automatically update on your blog after you add it to your sidebar. To add to Facebook there is a tab to click on, then click update my wall. It's as simple as that.

Also check out GroceryAlerts blog to find great coupons, deals, reviews, articles and giveaways.
