GlassesShop.com Sunglass ~ Review

It is really important to wear Sunglasses even on those overcast days and during the winter months. I always have my sunglasses with me as I now find it hard not to wear them. I was talking to a optometrist one day about sunglasses and she said because I am light eyed that I may actually have more sensitivity to light and also the fact that I work overnights also will effect my eyes.

Wearing the proper sunglasses can be hard on the wallet but I have been recently introduced to an online shop that sells cheap glasses including sunglasses.

I chose to review a big pair of sunglasses with dragonflies on the sides. They are great! I love how they block out the bright sun and I have gotten many compliments on the glasses. I find they are great for driving and just being outside. They are not too dark on overcast days so I can still wear them comfortably.

GlassesShop.com has a really nice and clean website that is easy to navigate around. If you are looking for prescription eyeglasses they have a wide variety available for men & women and a few for kids! What I like also is that you can easily order a pair of glasses from the comfort of your own home. Shipping is Free over $49 for regular air mail and Free over $149 for DHL/UPS/FEDX.

Easy returns if your glasses arrive damaged, they also offer returns/exchanges on frames if broken in a certain time frame (ranging from 14-30 days) check out their website for more details.

Get your First Pair Free for a limited time! Just head over to GlassesShop.com and click on the link at the top of their site First Pair Free. Valid on your first purchase, one per customer and prescription. All eyeglasses include: Free 1.50 Single Vision Lenses, Free Anti-scratch coating, Free protection case & cloth.

I love that my new sunglasses arrived in a nice case and included a cloth. I find a lot of the time the cases don't really fit the glasses well but not this time. They fit just right so I can protect my new sunglasses.

Visit GlassesShop.com on Facebook, Twitter and their Blog.  Want to save money? Use this coupon code (GSHOT50) on check out to save 50% off eyeglasses and sunglasses with free lenses (sale frames excluded).

Hoo-rag Headband ~ Review

Hoo-rag are these crazy fun tubes of material that you can wear a in multitude of ways. My favorite uses for Hoo-rags are as a headband for my workouts. They are great! They stay put and keep the sweat from dipping down my face! If you do any type of intense workout like Insanity Max 30 or cardio like Turbo Fire you will know what I am talking about! I have tried other headbands and most of the smaller ones or elastic ones want to pop off my head the minute I start really getting into my workout.

Hoo-rag offers a wide variety of patterns, colors and fun prints. Everything from camo, fish/hunting, flowers, flames and skulls! Available in Womens, Mens and dog bandanas
Not a fan of the big thick bandanas? There are even half Hoos available that are half the size. I really enjoy the Hoo-rag but I think for everyday wear I would like the half hoo. I find I have a small head and like a thinner headband so the half hoo would be easier to fit my head. They are a lot of fun to put your hair back and go. I have found them really useful in the mornings when running out the door with the kids to the bus or taking the dog out for a walk. No need to fix my hair just cover and go.

Hoo-rags are made of 100 percent polyester microfiber that wicks away moisture and protects you from the suns harmful rays! Rated to 30 UPF. This is great as I don't like to wear hats in the summer but this summer I can throw on a Hoo-rag instead. I find they keep you cool when you are heated and I look forward to giving them a try in the fall around my neck to keep the cold breeze off.

With 10+ ways to rock a Hoo-rag they are great for everyone! Check out this video to learn how to wear a Hoo-rag.

Animal Hats by Vanessa Mooncie ~ Knitting Book Review

Book Description: Gather knitting know-how for making animal hats of all shapes and sizes. The book features detailed knitting patterns, schematics, and basic animal hat-making techniques--plus how-to instruction for adding a fleecy hat-lining for extra coziness. There are patterns for every animal-lover. Animals included are cat, dog, chicken, rabbit, pig, frog, penguin, cow, elephant, fox, koala, monkey, panda, lion, and mouse. Patterns offer both child and adult sizes, so family members can each have their own hat

About the Author: Vanessa Mooncie spent many happy hours as a child sitting with her mother and maternal grandmother learning how to knit and crochet. She went on to study fashion and textile design and became a self-employed children’s wear designer, illustrator and commercial interior designer. She now specializes in silkscreen work and designing crochet jewellery, which she sells through her company Kissy Suzuki. She lives with her family in a rural village in the south of England. Vanessa is also working on Crocheted Accessories for GMC Publications and is a regular contributor to other craft books and magazines.

Purchase a copy from Thomas Allen & Sons Ltd. for $18.95

My Initial Review:

Today I am just reviewing the book, how the instructions are laid out and ideas. I will be working on knitting a couple hats in September when it isn't plus 40C out. I will later review the patterns and how the hat(s) turned out.

This is a great knitting book for anyone looking to make animal hats for children and adults. With 15 patterns to choose from there is sure to be one each family member will love. When the book first arrived the kids picked up which hat they would like me to make. This is the first knitting book I have and will be the first time knitting intarsia.

With a simple quick 1 page introduction we jump right into the projects. Each project (hat) has a single page for materials needed, size and gauge needed to obtain right hat size. There are tons of photos of the finished hat from different angles and the next page is broken down into a small overview and each section as they need to be knitted.

If you are a newer knitter you can easily flip to the back of the book to find knitting abbreviations along with basic knitting techniques. You will also find 2 options for linings that can be used for any of the patterns in the book, fleece & knitted.

I do have a few things I didn't like about this book, this could be because I am a new knitter but I didn't like that each pattern calls for a brand name yarn. It does say or equivalent but for myself I had to look up each wool/yarn to see what could work instead of the brand in the book. Some of the wool isn't available in my local knitting store and can be costly if it is. Also for kids wool isn't always the best for easy washing care as it has to be hand washed gently as to not felt it and I don't have a lot of time to hand wash things. I did noticed when I was online looking for a yarn that at least one yarn that was mentioned in the book was discontinued.

My kids have picked out the Fox and Cat hat for me to make them this fall.
If you were to pick a hat to make or have one made, which would you choose? I would love to hear your thoughts in a comment below!

New Knitting Project - Web Hat

Today I want to share more updates on my knitting journey. I have decided to jump right into making a hat. Yes, I know it is almost spring but there is still time and well I can always wear it in the fall. I can also wear it during the colder mornings when out on walks with Molly.

I know I am jumping right from making dishcloths and one cowl right into a non-basic beanie but I am determined to learn to read a pattern and not feel overwhelmed by it.

Here is the hat I choose:
Source Ravelry Pattern by Natalia Kolasa
This pattern involves counting stitches as I go and changing needles a couple times. Now that I know how to cast on, purl, knit, increase, decrease and bind off, I figure I can do this. The thing that scares me is counting the knit and purls while on the same round and also the task of switching needles.

I went into one of the Wool stores in the city after work the other day and picked up needles and wool. It is a HUGE store and I can't wait to go back and have more time to just browse around. I was also a really good girl and went in with the pattern on my phone and got only what I needed to make it. I didn't buy everything I liked.

I decided on a nice chunky deep brown with colored flecks. I figure this will be a forgiving color if I mess up a stitch here or there, the first time through the pattern.
Check out the patter for the Web hat by Natalia Kolasa on Ravelry. You will need to sign up for an account but it is quick and free. There are tons of patterns available lots for free and some that you can buy.

I will be posting pictures as I go on Instagram. If you would like to follow me you can find me as Canadiancouponmom. I also post pictures of my kids, pets and food. I will post my finished work as soon as it is done on the blog!

BEARPAW Flip Flop Review

Finally summer has arrived! I know I have said this a few times but I have been waiting for the sun, heat and beach time with my kids! It is finally here and I am excited to put on my flip flops and head to the beach. From the time it gets warm enough until it is just too cold for my toes I love flip flops (expect at work of course but I do wear them to and from work, haha).

Flip flops are so easy to slip on my feet and stay cool. They are great at the beach as they are easy to rinse off after your feet are full of sand. Have you seen the wedge flip flops? We can be very stylish in flip flops all summer long!

Put a Spring in your step with Alegria sandals

Here in Ontario we had a couple beautiful Summer like days already! I mean 30 degree weather and then it got cold again but we are in Canada. On those beautiful days I had the chance to wear my new pair of Alegria sandals.
If you have never heard of Alegria shoes before you can see my last review on them from the fall. They are fantastic shoes that make you feel like you are walking on clouds. They have a mild rocker sole to help encourage a normal gait and posture. In return help reduce stress on muscles, joints and back.

Colored Contacts: Where to buy & Which to choose?

For as long as I can remember I have always wanted to get colored contacts. I do not need glasses but I have always wanted to brighten my eyes or even go another color. I have finally decided now is the time. I will overcome the fear of contacts.

I have spent some time searching online for best price and nice looking ones. I have narrowed down my search to two online stores CandyLens.com and Speciallens.com. I think I have actually narrowed it down to a few different ones also. I am also trying to keep the first pair under $35 including shipping and handling.

Now why am I posting this? I would love your thoughts. Do you wear contacts? How do you like them? Are they hard to put in/take out or wear? Have you purchased from either of these online shops? Where do you buy your contacts?

Here are the few I have been thinking about. Remember I have light blue/gray eyes. My goal with my first pair is to brighten and enlarge my eyes.
The prices range from $19.90 to $21.95. Shipping is $5 at Candy Lens and $2 a pair plus $9 (flat handling) at Special Lens.

Belly Charms Review

I recently had the chance to try 3 belly rings from a company called Belly Charms. Belly Charms offers a wide variety of belly rings, maternity belly rings, personalized bracelets and vital ID products.

Belly Charms is run by Sonya who is a mother of two young boys. Sonya had the idea of Belly Charms in 2007 after her second son was born. Sonya had a hard time finding places that offered pregnancy belly rings and I can contest to that also as I found one place when I had my son in 2006 that offered shipping to Canada and was a reasonable rate for both the rings and shipping. I find one of the best things about Belly Charms is that Sonya does it all! She does the emailing, putting the orders together and shipping out. What a busy mommy! She is friendly and fast at replying to emails and shipping your products out.

Sonya has this to share with all my wonderful readers :)

"If you have an idea, you just have to run with it. Four years ago the only thing I could do on a computer was send an email.  I am serious!  I knew nothing about website design.  Nothing!!  The last 4 years have been total trial and error.  I have made some great business decisions and I have made some bad ones too.  At first Belly Charms was an "extra income" business for me.  I was working as an aerobic coordinator for a large health club chain, personal training some clients and teaching about 15 classes a week.  My boys were little and they went to the gym with me when I taught in the mornings, then stayed home with my husband when I taught at night.  It was great.  When we relocated to North Florida 2 years ago I quickly learned there were no big health club chains, and I  was very upset.  I loved teaching and managing...it had been my career since I got out of college.  We needed 2 incomes, so I poured everything into Belly Charms.

In addition to the pregnancy belly button rings and mother's bracelets, I have added Mom-To-Be Jewelry, Child Safety ID Wristbands, Parking Pals....and I have a few other products from mom owned businesses I plan to add in the next few months.  I have always been a hard worker and I was determined to replace my lost income.  I am finally teaching classes again, but only a few a week.  Belly Charms is now my job and teaching is what I do to keep my sanity.  I have a husband, 2 boys who are 4 and 5, 2 dogs, 2 cats and 2 hamsters.  I never sleep more than 6 hours a night, but I get to work at home.  I get to be a full time mom and run a full time business.  I will catch up on sleep when they both get to Elementary School."

I have had my belly pierced since I was 15, almost 15 years ago! I have had 2 children since then and still have it thanks to great maternity belly rings. They are made with a flexible PTFE shaft that allows your belly to expand. Also feels very comfortable that even after having my children I wore mine a long time after then switched back to a regular steel shaft belly ring but it was never the same.

I tried out 2 flexible belly rings and a steel one from Belly Charms. These are the 3 I tried:
I really love the look on all of them of these belly rings. The flexible was are very comfy and are just the right size for my belly. They don't hang to low and rub on any of my clothing. You don't even realize it is there, no getting used to it either. It is great comfort from the beginning. The clear one is wonderful if you don't really want it to stand out when maybe swimming. All the colored rings are very vibrant. Yes, I know the color didn't show up that well in my picture but head over to Belly Charms and you will see all the great colors Sonya has to offer. They are easy to switch and thread on, I have had some in the past that were hard to put the balls on the ends.

Prices for the Belly rings start at $2.99 and up. The personalized bracelets, anklets and necklaces make great gifts for moms to be, moms or grandmas. The belly rings are also an great idea for baby showers! Hopefully someone isn't reading this or she may guess what she is getting for part of her baby shower gift.

CreaClip Review Giveaway

I want to share with you a great way to save some money by doing things at home. I am always trying to find ways to save money. I save money on food, always shop sales and combine coupons when I can. I watch for clothing and toy sales. I don't buy things we don't need for the most part. I cut D and P's hair at home with a $25 set of clippers.

Early in the summer I entered a giveaway over on A Motherhood Experience, this giveaway really peaked my interest as it was a great way to save money! I have always trimmed my own hair at home. I think in my whole almost 30 years I have had 4 haircuts in salons! One of my last haircuts I got 14 inches cut off, that was almost 2 years ago come November.

Anyways back to the giveaway! It was for this nifty contraption called the CreaClip. It is a clip you use to cut your own hair and bangs. Hmm do I trust going there? Sure why not so sign me up for this giveaway. I poked around their site after reading Alyssa's review and was very excited about the product.

When the giveaway ended I got an email saying I was the winner, Yay! I was very excited to try this product out and I really wanted to do side swept bangs. This will save me $35 + on a salon cut, since I rarely "cut" my hair more just trims ever couple months.

So off I went back to the CreaClip website to check out ALL the videos they have on cutting your have with the CreaClip. I will tell you I spent hours looking at the videos before I received the clips in the mail. I also want to learn more about the inventor. Here is some info on the inventor:

"Mai Lieu is President, CEO and founder of CreaProducts LLC, a product development and consulting firm that inspires and delivers innovative and creative products that enrich the consumer's quality of life. As an inventor and entrepreneur with 15 years experience in the beauty industry, she's won more than 7 first-place international hairdressing awards. "

I received my CreaClip and was nervous to try it. Once I re-watched the videos over and over again, I thought I can do this. I just jumped right into it and trimmed up the bottom of my hair and then went for side swept bangs! I used to have bangs but for the last 6 or more years I have grown them out. The CreaClip was easy to use once you get the feel of it. The bangs I played with starting longer and then going shorter. I do really recommend watching the videos until you are comfortable before cutting. I also suggest a good set of hair cutting scissors. I have even trimmed A's hair and it was easy and she wasn't freaked out.
I am on the right with the dark brown hair, with side swept bangs :)

They are easy to clean and store and guess what? You save money! The set retails for $29.99 plus shipping (International shipping is $9.95) and you can by it on their website. I do understand it is a bit pricey at $40.00 but remember that is a one time cost. Believe me I have already got my money's worth with the amount of times I have used it.

Connect with CreaClip on Facebook or Twitter.

Win!

Spring Cleaning Came Early

I will admit my closet should have been cleaned out a few year ago, as I started to pull out stuff and found a bunch of baby blankets and a nursing pillow. We have a decent sized closet. Nothing huge but it is a small walk in, enough space to collect too much stuff.

I love clothes, not so much after having my children but I still love clothes. I haven't felt happy with my body for a few years. I have been back to work full time for just over 2 and 1/2 years and my goal was to lose 25lbs. Not that I was much over weight, about 10-15 lbs but for myself, I like to weigh 120-125lbs. It has been a long struggle as I could never find the time or energy to workout more than walking or taking the stairs at work. With that in mind I made sure that I was eating as healthy as I could (I do not get to choose the food I eat at work as I work in a Jewish/Kosher environment and as my one position I was never in one house more than a day or two in a row.) This has been a challenge but I have been doing not too bad with reaching for fruit or veggies instead of cookies or cereal bars (when I reach for cereal bars I opt for the higher in fibre etc).

I have had a hard time buying clothes in the last few years. I used to be one of those women that never worn jeans (maybe once a week or so), I would wear dress pants pretty much everyday and a nice dressy shirt. I wasn't one to spend a fortune on clothes, usually waiting for sales at Smart Set, Featherweathers or another similar clothing store. Now I have been wearing jeans, t-shirts and sweaters. I have been frustrated with as it has been hard to wear nice clothes as I have ruined a few to many things with cleaning or cooking at work.

With Fall approaching and my Social Media job heading in the direction I have been working so hard towards it is now time to be happy again with how I look. I am now done to 121lbs and feel a lot healthier. With a new me, comes a new wardrobe. Cleaning out the closet was the first thing that needed to be accomplished. That is a very scary task! After a few hours of getting lost in my closet, I now have 2 big garbage bags full of women's clothes to donate, a grocery bag of magazines and a big garbage bag of baby bedding, carrier and nursing pillow. I also have a grocery bag full to share with a friend if anything fits and she likes.

Now to figure out what is 2011 Fall/Winter must haves. After searching online at all the fashion sites and blogs I have come to conclusion that some must haves are Chunky Sweaters, Colored pants, plaids & polka dots, some places say Camo print and some say leopard, some have also said Tribal so I am a bit confused here. Colors this fall are - jade green, mustard yellow and rusty orange. I am not a fashion diva anymore, so I will play around with what I can find and have already. I am looking at keeping the new wardrobe budget at a reasonable price. I figure I will really work on getting interchangeable pieces.

I went to Reitmans and picked up two pairs of pants, one pair jean and the other an olive green color. Now I would like one or two pairs of black dressy pants and I should be good for pants. I still have a few pairs a jeans in good shape.

I have found a few places that I will be watching online for items that will be great for Fall/Winter. Ebay.ca and Group The World, maybe even Mimi McQueen. I will also be checking out Coupons.ca before purchasing online for coupon codes. I will let you know my new wardrobe as I work on it.

iPhone Wallet

I did it! I finally made a purchase for a new iPhone case. I looked and looked on eBay Canada for hours over the last couple weeks and decided to go with a leather wallet type this time around. It looks like a wallet and inside has a few spots for cards.

I love shopping certain things on eBay and cell phone cases are one of the things. They are really inexpensive, this way you can have a few or just save money! In store a lot of the cases go for about $30, on eBay you can purchase them for $10 or less. Some are more but you can get some for $3. I picked mine up, shipping and exchange for $5.09! Yes, it will take likely two weeks to arrive but it was very inexpensive! The seller has already shipped and I only purchased it yesterday morning.

I will give a review on this and update when it is received.

Retail Therapy

I am not one for retail therapy anymore. I used to be very bad with it and anytime I was stressed or sad I would shop. I would usually buy on sale but not necessarily what I needed. Usually it would end up in my closet not worn or in a box not used with tags still on it. Then I would have a big Visa/MasterCard bill.

The last couple years I try to only buy what I need and save for the wants. I also look for the best prices. The Internet is a wonderful tool to shop around in the comfort of your own home. Over the years I have found some great deals.

I have been looking for a new iPhone case since the first one I bought was a white one. Why in the world I bought white I don't know. You would think they would clean well but no. It doesn't wipe clean and it looks gross. I have been looking on eBay.ca for another one, maybe this time in black or a hard case not soft this way it can be cleaned. With everything going on I really just want to go shopping really badly. So I have decided since I really would like a nicer case I will pick out a new one and that will be my shopping. Under $10!

There are so many to choose from I am not sure which I will buy.. I'm off to do some browsing and hope to buy one today! I will post when I find one.
