I try to eat as much of in season as possible as there are more sales/better deals on those vegetables and fruits. This helps a bit with the grocery bill as fruits and veggies seem to be one of the higher costs. Another idea is to see if your town does the produce box monthly. These boxes usually run $15-20 and include a mix of in season fruit and veggies. A little of everything gets included. Our town does one once a month, they ask you pay the first week of the month and it arrives in for pick up around the 18th I believe. I went with a friend to see how and where it is done. I would like to try it out in the fall and then when I do weekly trips I can add what I need. It did seem like a lot of stuff for $20. Worth a shot if it will save you money and your family isn't picky.

GoGo SqueeZ Review

Finding snacks for the children that are convenient, tasty and of course nut free can be a challenge. It seems there really are not a lot of things to chose from. Last year I found looking for back to school snacks a challenge.

Have you heard of GoGo SqueeZ apple sauce? GoGo SqueeZ are little pouches of apple sauce that require no spoons or bowls. They are easy for children to eat on the go and are available in 5 flavours! Apple Apple, Apple Strawberry, Apple Banana, Apple Cinnamon, and Apple Peach. Kosher certified, Gluten, Dairy and Nut free, made from 100% fruit with no refined sugar.
Our thoughts: We received Apple Apple and Apple Strawberry to try out for this review. We received them the day before heading out on a day trip. They are easy to pack in the cooler or lunch bag, no spoon required. I also like that they are resealable not that my children left anything in them. The apple sauce we very tasty that they squeezed them dry. The packs are also recyclable. GoGo Sqeeze gets two thumbs up by Canadian Coupon Mom and kids!
"Like" GoGo SqueeZ on Facebook, connect on Twitter and find out where to purchase on GoGo SqueeZ website.

Here I am

Yes, I am still around but not on my computer that often in the last few days. Sorry this has been a very busy week and it has only begun.

I have photos of soccer as promised, I will give you a sneak peak of yesterday and then tell you all about my week later this week. More likely over the weekend as this is my Vacation with the people I support.

Yesterday we spent the day at Papanack Zoo, which I will tell you was a lot of fun and we had some very good laughs! You will want to hear it for sure ;)

That's it for now, I am heading back into work for another day trip! Stay tuned!

Weekend Fun, Quick Update

Just a quick update as I haven't posted much this past week. Sorry! It has been very busy as will this upcoming week.

This weekend has already been super busy with P's soccer tournament this morning and ran until early afternoon. A quick run down. No wins but our team had a lot of fun playing their 3 games. The kids always love getting their Tim Horton's Timbits medal and a nice hotdog lunch with Reid's Dairy chocolate milk. Pictures to come for sure when I get around to uploading them.

Then a grocery trip with the family to pick up some much needed snacks, veggies, fruits and cereals. Pretty much everything that was on sale this week at Food Basic. We also found some boxes with the General Mills Free Beach Towel pin codes on them and took a chance to see if they had any left. The cereal cost us $2.99 and we were in luck and will be getting a couple of the Honey Bee Beach Towels in 8 weeks.

While I was out I got a text from my good friend Alyssa from A Motherhood Experience letting me know she found a good site for women's clothes online. Well of course when I got in I had to check it out. The site wasn't loading when I was mobile and that was a good thing as the site has a ton of awesome clothes at killer deals. I know you are know wanting the name, but I will be keep this one a secret until I find out more about it. I will do a quick review once I have received my first order and let everyone know about it.

Tomorrow we will have another fun filled day if the rain stays away and I will let you know all about it tomorrow night :) I will also try very hard to post photos!

Ottawa Valley Youth Bowling Centre

Are you looking for a team sport for your child to be part of that is fun and affordable? Ottawa Valley Youth Bowling teaches the young ones 5 pin bowling and be part of a team. Every Saturday starting in the beginning of September and running until mid-late April (varies from locations) youth can get out in the Ottawa area and practice their bowling skills and make new friends.
The upcoming Fall Youth Bowling season is coming up fast! They have 5 location in Ottawa, also location in each of the following - Smiths Falls, Carleton Place, Arnprior, Kemptville, Renfrew, and Petawawa. Be sure to check out the Ottawa YBC website to find the address for a centre near. The times for games vary from centre to centre but are generally from 9am -11am.

I really like that each and every child gets a chance to play regardless on their ability. This is wonderful as young children are not always the best at getting the ball down the center. The younger children (7years and under) play two games every Saturday and everyone else plays three games. Every location teaches the children to play 5 pin bowling.

So how much does all this fun cost you ask? Each week costs $5-$10 but there is an initial cost at the beginning of $20-$40 for registration fee.

Head on over to Ottawa Youth Bowling site and find a centre near you!

Fotolia Review and 2 week trial

Do you blog, own a website or just like making homemade greeting cards? Where do you find your pictures/images? A lot of bloggers use our own pictures or images from a company website but what about those posts where you just don't have something to insert. Do you surf the web and just pick a picture? Have you asked the owner of that picture if you can use it?

The best answer to that is to purchase an royalty free stock photo but where is the best place to get them? There are a number of sites out there now offering royalty free stock photos for a small fee. I had the opportunity to try out Fotolia for a month.
With Fotolia you have over14,000,000 images, vectors and HD videos to choose from. The site is pretty easy to navigate around. You can search by entering a word in the search bar and putting a check mark in the field you would like to search - image, vector, HD video. You can also search by category. When you find the image you are looking for you now have the option to choose which size and dpi. The price is from .75 cents and up depending on size. You can also purchase a membership if you use a lot of images, etc. The
memberships are as follows:

Each membership varies on how many you can download in a day and size.

You can find Fotolia on Facebook or check out their blog.

Try It: Fotolia would like to offer select Canadian Coupon Mom readers a two week trial to try out Fotolia for themselves. Please leave a comment below telling me why you would like to be picked for the trial offer? Don't forget to include your email address to be contacted if you are selected. Thanks!

This is open to Canadian residents and the lucky people will be selected by Canadian Coupon Mom based on their comments, Please watch for the announcement to be posted by August 24th,2011.

No Power

Sorry for the lack of posts the last two days. I went into work on Monday at 2pm and ended up doing a double. I got off work yesterday at 9 am and commuted my hour drive home to spend the rest of the day with the kids.

I took a break from blogging as I normally blog in the early mornings or late at night. Last night was an early to bed night.

This morning I ended up sleeping until almost 8 am! I must have needed the sleep, almost 11 hours of sleep!

The hydro men are hard at work this morning from 8 am until 12 pm replacing the transmitter outside our house. Hence no power for us for those hours. Also no wifi with my netbook. I am blogging on my iPhone quickly to let you all know I am okay and haven't forgotten about my readers :)

I will be back posting tonight or tomorrow morning. I have a great activity to tell you about that is in the Ottawa and the surrounding area!

Have a great day!!

Save Money, Do Good {Guest Post}

Hi! My name is Jen (I know… different Jen!) and I’ve been invited by Jennifer at  Canadian Coupon Mom to tell you about two special opportunities. One, to save you piles of money on your new favorite hobby and two, to help out with a really great cause.
Just this year, a friend of mine started posting her digital scrapbooking layouts on her Facebook page. The moment I saw them, I knew I wanted in. I used to paper scrap but it was pricey, I could never keep up with all my digital photos and developing and I knew that I really enjoyed working with basic “graphic design” type activities on my computer. A lot of people use Photoshop Elements but I am NOT that patient or that techno-savy, so it was way too complex and expensive for me. I began researching digital scrapbooking software and came across a site that reviewed all the main players in the digiscrap game and had crowned Polaroid My Memories Suite the winner based on quality, features and price point. I was sold and have been going non-stop ever since. Here are a few meager examples of what you can create with this program. They also have many templates and quick-pages for the less artsy among us. The printed final products are inexpensive, of stunning quality and it’s prefect for both beginners and more avid scrappers.

I know what you are thinking: “That’s nice Jen, when are you going to start saving me money and helping a good cause?!” and I hear ya. What I have to offer is a coupon code that will save you $10 off the software AND get you a bonus $10 credit in the My Memories Store towards buying kits. But here’s the **extra** kicker - when this code is used, $20 (minus the lame PayPal fees) will be sent to the Dr. Hawa Abdi Foundation in Somalia. I strongly encourage you to read about this organization or listen to their powerful and inspiring interview which aired on CBC radio’s “The Current” in mid-July. The funds go to support a hospital, farm and refugee camp which aids more than 90,000 displaced and starving Somali people and those fleeing neighbouring countries. The need is especially great in this time of extreme famine.

Visit My Memories and use the promo coupon code STMMMS69202 at check-out. There are other codes and other deals available online but this is the ONLY one that will get you $10 off the product PLUS $10 credit in-store PLUS allow me to donate $20 to an important cause. You can pass the code on to any of your friends or family and it is also valid in the USA.

Thank-you so much to Canadian Coupon Mom for allowing this guest feature. If you aren’t interested in digital scrapbooking, that’s okay -  please still consider donating to the foundation or any of the other worthy groups helping in Africa in during this time of crisis.
