Author Spotlight Saturday ~ Interview with Renee Lake

Please Welcome Renee Lake to Genuine Jenn! Renee is the author of The Bathory Curse. Welcome Renee!
Tell us a little bit about yourself and why/what inspired you to write? When did you start writing?

I have always wanted to write, I've been writing since I was a little girl, filling up notebooks, the floppy disks and now thumb drives.

What was your inspiration for ‘The Bathory Curse’?

I love Dracula and always felt he should be treated as more of an anti-hero than a villain. I love Elizabeth Bathory and wanted to play around with why she was as crazy as history makes her out to be.

What three words would you use to best describe The Bathory Curse?

Cerulean, Unhinged,  Magical

Can you tell us if you’re working on anything else at the moment?

Yes, a Gothic Ghost Story

What was your very first book that you wrote?

Rose Blossom- it's a teen vampire romance, I actually started it before Twilight was even a thing, even published. Just didn't get it finished faster than Stephanie Meyer. :)

Other than your own, what are your favourite books?

Jurassic Park, Little Women, Dracula and The Haunting of Hill House

When you are writing to you like to listen to music? What is on your playlist?

It changes based on the story. Though this one I had a hard time listening to music while I wrote it.

Who is your favorite character in your books?

In this book it is Sabine, the MC's bisexual, Scottish, extravagant and foul mouthed BFF.

Do you ever take characteristics or nuances from close friends or family when working on character development and if so has that friend or family member noticed and what was their response to it?

I do. I love to take people I know and enhance one part of their personality and turn it into a character. For example: In Dark Magic the youngest sister is based on the fact my best friend can be very emotional, so the sister is an empathetic water sign. I have never had anyone complain. I do not every do it in a negative fashion and not usually with BIG characters. I have had people ASK me to write a character for them.

What’s your favourite treat?

Oooh, hard one. Pretzel rolls filled with cheese.

What’s your favourite place to read/write?

Anywhere that I kind find that is quite, where my kids are not bugging me. lol

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?

England
