Howard B Wigglebottom Review & G!veaway

Today I want to share with you another Howard B Wigglebottom story, you may remember we reviewed Howard B Wigglebottom Learns About Bullies in January and the kids really felt bad for what Howard went through as he was learned to deal with his bullies. Howard is a white little bunny who learns a different lesson in life with every story.

We recently reviewed the animated Howard B. Wigglebottom books over on The We Do Listen Foundation website. The We Do Listen Foundation is a non profit corporation helps children to enjoy inner peace and communicate in a more effective way.
When you visit their site you will find educational games, animated books, music, videos and a book shop to purchase hard copy of Howard B. Wigglebottom books. These activities are geared towards 4-8 year olds.
We reviewed Howard B. Wigglebottom and the Monkey on his back. This book teaches children about making the right choice about telling the truth. Howard felt the pressure (monkey) when he was telling lies. There is also a song called Telling the Truth is Cool that goes along with this book and they book can be viewed on the site for free. The only thing I think I would love to see is words being highligthed on the screen while the book is read for the younger children. I know both my children would benefit from this as a beginner reader.

Want to win a hard copy of a Howard B. Wigglebottom book? Our great friends over at We Do Listen Foundation is offering one lucky Canadian Coupon Mom reader a chance to win their choice of book off the site! This giveaway will end on March 25th, 2012 at 12:01am EST. It is open to US and Canada. Good Luck!

Peanut Butter Friday! Recipe

This week we tried out a very easy and quick recipe made of peanut butter and Nutella. As a child I remember making peanut butter cookies with my mom. Something I always liked doing was rolling them into a ball and then using a fork to make the traditional design on top.

Peanut Butter Sandwich Cookies
Source: off the Kraft Peanut Butter jar
makes: 12 sandwiches
time: 25 mins

Ingredients:

1 cup peanut butter
1/2 granulated sugar
1 egg
jar of Nutella

Directions:
  • Preheat oven to 325F
  • Mix peanut butter, sugar and egg
  • Roll into 1-inch balls
  • Take a fork dipped lightly in flour and make a
  • Place 2- inches apart on baking sheet.
  • Bake for 15 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool 5 minutes and transfer to wire rack to cool completely
* Tip: cookies will continue to bake if left too long on the cookie sheet. Remember to let cool 5 minutes then transfer to wire rack to cool completely. *
They turned out great! Nothing better than Nutella or chocolate and peanut butter. The next time I make these I will make them smaller as I found one cookie to be very filling.

National Breakfast Day with Kellogg's #shareyourbreakfast

Having a healthy breakfast each morning is a great way to get our bodies ready to take on our day. This gives us the energy that we need to focus and be productive throughout the morning. Imagine a child sitting at their desk that hasn't had breakfast; all that they can think about is the grumbling belly. Some children go to school hungry as this isn't a choice for them. Hunger is also a problem in Canada.

Thursday March 8th is National Breakfast Day and Kellogg’s has partnered with Breakfast Clubs of Canada and Breakfast for Learning to launch the Share Your Breakfast program to encourage Canadians to help children who might otherwise go without.

Wordless Wednesday March 7th, 2012

Fruit & Yogurt Breakfast

Today's recipe is a guest post from my 5 year old son, Mr Magoo. Yesterday morning Mr Magoo came to wake me up and ask if he could make breakfast. I told him go right ahead. Normally he would make a bowl of cereal. This morning was different. He didn't want to make cereal for himself. He wanted to make breakfast for everyone (Mom, Abbagator and himself).
As I got up he was already at the table with the ingredients for his breakfast.

Mr. Magoo's Fruit & Yogurt Breakfast
(serves 3)

Ingredients:
1- Banana
6- Strawberries
1 1/2 cups Yogurt (we used Vanilla)

Directions:
  • Cut Banana's and Strawberries.
  • Spoon out 1/2 cup yogurt into serving bowls
  • Add Banana's and Strawberries to yogurt
  • Enjoy
Mr. Magoo hopes everyone enjoys this recipe and leaves him a message. After him helping me type this up he told me when he turns 7 years old he wants his own blog. haha a blogger in the making?

Fit & Firm Fridays

Last week I totally missed posting a quick update and for that I am sorry. I am really not sure if anyone is following this but if you are I haven't totally even up on the healthy lifestyle just yet. haha

With all the snow we have gotten in the last couple big snow falls I have been doing some great workouts in our driveway! It can be a lot of work clearing out the end of a double (well it actually fits four vehicles in total) lane driveway.

I haven't lost any weight yet but I also haven't gained any; that's a good thing right?

I still need to work on the drinking more water. I just don't like tap water and at work that is pretty much all we have available. I need to figure out a solution to this problem as I do find myself thirsty overnight. I have been pretty good with the snacking. Usually a bowl of cereal in the early am and maybe veggies or a fruit at night. I have been trying to have a snack before work if I am hungry but lately I haven't been!

I am thinking about getting myself on more vitamins to health with the getting and staying healthy part. A B12 vitamin and a multi-vitamin are both good ideas and I have been on those both. It is to remember to take them daily.

I have been walking a lot more. We (kids and I) have taken longer walks to the store or the park. I have been walking to any place that is in the downtown area and briskly walk when the kids are not with me. I had 2 nice walks today already. I found out we have a walking track at our community centre and may just have to venture over there someday soon.
Also found a tasty sweet snack Chocolate Chip Fudgie Cups made with Equal!
