Book Review: The Clinton St Baking Company

By Neil Kleinberg

From the Publisher: The Clinton St. Baking Company is one of the hottest brunch spots in a city obsessed with brunch. A tiny thirty-two-seat eatery on Manhattan's trendy Lower East Side, the restaurant draws long lines of customers who come from far and wide to sample fresh-baked goods, hearty omelets, sugar-cured bacon, and light-as-air pancakes with maple butter.

In the Clinton St. Baking Company Cookbook, owners DeDe Lahman and Neil Kleinberg share more than 100 treasured recipes that have made their restaurant a sensation. Learn the secret to their house-made buttermilk biscuits and tomato jam, irresistible muffins and scones, delicious soups and sandwiches, and their decadent, eye-catching desserts. Helpful techniques, like Neil's
patented omelet "flip and tuck," and gorgeous color photographs throughout will have readers cooking like pros in no time, and sharing the delicious results.

Review: Right away when I saw the cover and write up for this book I knew I would love it. I love to bake so who am I kidding when it comes to breakfast, cookies and muffins? When the book arrived for review my son opened it with me and right away we need to try the pancakes. We flipped through the book and a lot caught my attention as a must try. We chose two cookie recipes to start with since Christmas baking will be coming up. We tried Chocolate Chunk Cookies (p. 197) and Maple Walnut Cookies (p. 201). For both recipes the directions are pretty easy to follow and the ingredients are everyday pantry staples. Both of the cookies got a two thumbs up with my children of course. I loved how the chocolate chunk cookies had cinnamon in them, it made an interesting but good taste. My kids have put in a request for the next weekend I'm off to make pancakes. Maybe I will make them some nice homemade Clinton St. Baking Company Pancakes for Christmas morning!
Chocolate Chunk Cookies
These went over very well. Dh took a few to work and ended up with none for himself. They got great reviews from his co-workers.

Maple Walnut Cookies
These I could have baked a bit less but they are soooo good! I love these. I will be making them again and again. They taste great with a cold glass of milk. Hmm maybe Santa will put in a request for these :)
