Jeni's Splendid Ice Cream book Review and Giveaway!

I LOVE Ice Cream! Any kind really and my favourite topping is peanut butter! Yes I know that is a different kind of topping but it is so tasty. If you haven't tried it out please do and I am sure you will enjoy it.

With the recent heatwave here in Ontario our great friends at Thomas Allen & Son has sent us Jeni's Splendid Ice Cream at Home book to check out. This book introduces us to Jeni Britten Bauer and how she started out making delicious ice cream and opening her first shop. Jeni then shows the average person how to make 100 addictively good Artisanal recipes at home with your average ice cream maker. All the recipes in the book were tried and tested with a Cuisinart Ice-20 1 1/2-quart canister machine.

From the book:
Now, with her debut cookbook, Jeni Britton Bauer is on a mission to help foodies create perfect ice creams, yogurts, and sorbets—ones that are every bit as perfect as hers—in their own kitchens. Frustrated by icy and crumbly homemade ice cream, Bauer invested in a $50 ice cream maker and proceeded to test and retest recipes until she devised a formula to make creamy, sturdy, lickable ice cream at home. Filled with irresistible color photographs, this delightful cookbook contains 100 of Jeni’s jaw-droppingly delicious signature recipes—from her Goat Cheese with Roasted Cherries to her Queen City Cayenne to her Bourbon with Toasted Buttered Pecans. Fans of easy-to-prepare desserts with star quality will scoop this book up.
How cool is that?

My thoughts: I really enjoyed reading this book right from the beginning with learning about Jeni and her love for Ice cream. Jeni breaks down making ice cream at home so that it is easy for the average home cooker/baker. Jeni has a section on what ingredients and equipment you will need that shows you how to get started. Jeni goes in to detail on the craft or maybe it should be called science of ice cream making. What each ingredient does and how it makes the ice cream work or not. Then get ready to experiment with all kinds of different flavours from Passion Fruit Frozen Yogurt to Gooey Butter Cake Ice Cream!

The book is divided into sections for the seasons - Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. Jeni has included the basics of a great ice cream base and frozen yogurt base, along with add ins - Nuts & Dried Fruits, Variegates & Fruits for Ice Cream, Baked Good & Candies and my favourite Sundae Accessories. This book is definitely a book you will want to pick up if you have ever wanted to make ice cream at home!
