Gift Idea: Baking Kits for your Little Baker

Do you have a little aspiring baker on your hands or on your Christmas list? A great gift idea for your baker is a baking kit from Orange Fish. They carry a wide range of cookie kits for boys and girls. Orangefish.ca is a Canadian online shop with fabulous fresh finds, they sell a lot of Canadian made products, eco friendly and celebrity items. Learn more about Orange Fish on their About me page.

We were recently sent a couple of the cookie kits to try out and here is our adventure!

My daughter and I took on this task one day her brother was at school and we had a baking day!

The kits come with almost everything that you will need. Our kit needed butter/margarine, eggs, water and powdered sugar. The directions are on the back of the box, 7 steps in total for the Fairy Cookie Kit.

1. Prepare - This is where the adult helps by preheating the oven, grease the cookie sheet (we have cookie sheets that do not need to be greased so we skipped that step) and the kids go wash their hands and get an apron.
2. Kids can mix up the cookie mix, 2 eggs and 6 Tbsp of butter or margarine. We then placed it in the fridge for 30 mins to an hour.

3. Shape - roll out dough. At this point I remembered why I was never fond of making sugar cookies. I found the dough to sticky to work with and added some flour until I could roll it between two sheets of parchment paper. My daughter helped with the rolling and cutting out the cookies. I found it easier to flip the bottom sheet over the cookie sheet instead of trying to lift the cookie up.

4. Bake - An adult can put the cookies in oven. Kids can sit and watch through the door.

5. Cool - This was really hard for my daughter as she couldn't wait to decorate them.

We ran out of time and had to go pick up P from the bus before finishing by icing and decorating.
P helped us make the icing step 6 and then let it dry. The kit includes edible paints and sprinkles and I let the kids go nuts with decorating! We even had a helper just in case something was to fall on the floor (see picture 2 above in strip!)

In the end - we really enjoyed this kit as an afternoon activity and the cookies were very yummy! I would recommend this kit to anyone looking for a fun activity with their kids especially if you are not a regular baker it is great because you only have to add a couple things and you are good to go.
Also if you head over there today and tomorrow save before the holidays with these great deals!
