Do You Krave Chocolate for Breakfast?

We have recently tried some great new products from Kellogg's! I have a hard time finding things my daughter will eat without a battle in the mornings especially on school days. She doesn't like to eat right away after getting up and she isn't big on most cereals and doesn't really like bread, toasted is worse.

Let me show you something that the whole family loves from Kellogg's. Do you love a little chocolate to get your day started? I just Krave chocolate sometimes and why not get the day off with a little pick me up?!
Krave is a new cereal offered in Chocolate and Double Chocolate. They are little crispy shells filled with a smooth chocolatey centre. The double chocolate has a chocolate shell. Both are made with whole grains. The double offers 3 grams of fibre while the regular is 2 grams for a 3/4 cup of cereal.
Love yogurt and granola? This is one breakfast food I do love and will actually sit down and enjoy. Why not try out Special K low fat Granola? I found it very tasty as regular granola but it is 50% less fat per serving (55g serving) than the competitive granola. It is made with whole grain oats and a touch of sweet honey. Contains 5 grams of fibre.
Special K Crisps in two new flavors - Cinnamon Brown Sugar and Chocolate. They are crispy and delicious, come in a 2 pack and are 100 calories per serving (pack!). Perfect for portion controlled snacking.

All the new products from Kellogg's Canada will be found in our cupboards again for sure. We have been through a lot of the cereal as the kids love to mix it in with their Rice Krispies. I love leaving a bar or two in my van for the drive home from work. Nice little snack and not a bunch of calories to worry about.

The regent of the Dumnos fae is turning the court from light to dark, and there's nothing the rightful king, Prince Dandelion, can do about it. The mystical coronation cup which he needs to become king has fallen into human hands. When he meets a human woman with access to the cup, everything changes. Beverly is fascinating as well as useful-but of course Dandelion doesn't love her. Love for a fairy is rare. Love with a human, impossible. Shoe Shopping for Flower Girl

I have never found shoe shopping with A to be much of a hassle. If anything it is usually a lot of fun looking at all the pretty shoes. This time I was actually looking for a specific shoe and size so of course when you need something you can not find it. Isn't that the way?

A will be in a wedding on Saturday and she has this beautiful brown dress and she needed a nice pair of shoes to go with it. I remembered seeing a really cute pair of sparkly gold shoes last year and thought they would be a lot of fun. A is in a princess stage right now and it would almost be like Cinderella's shoes, nice and fancy.

Well of course we go out looking and can not find gold shoes anywhere in any size. Next we decided if we can't find them why not craft them? I bought some gold glitter and have a big bottle of Mod podge already. We thought we would get a cute pair of white or brown shoes and go from there. No luck in finding a size to find in our local town.

Finally after work last week I decided to check out Payless shoes as a friend mentioned on my Facebook status that she bought her daughter a pair of brown Mary Jane type of shoes there. Nothing fancy but $12 and brown. When I arrived it wasn't open until 9:30am. I had to wait about 20 minutes, oh well at least I can relax after a busy morning at work.
I finally found gold sparkly shoes but not in an 11. I asked the girl working if they had anymore in the back and she printed off a list of stores that had them. Off I went to the next Payless. When I got there I had a couple slips with shoes I wanted in sizes the other store didn't have. At the bottom of the slip was a $6 off coupon! I was able to buy A her dressy shoes and a nice pair of fall boots.
I also was able to get myself a pair of runners! Best part about my new runners? They were $45 down to $22 and then half that! YAY me!
I got home to find out that A's shoes didn't fit so on Wednesday I headed back and got her a smaller size that will fit for now and she can keep the size 11 for later. She is very VERY happy about this plan. More fun princess shoes for her.

Another posts to come I am sure with pictures of the kids at the wedding.

Passion Creek #BookReview

Uptight history professor Sam Layton may have the abs of a movie action hero, but he stopped believing in the joy of adventure a long time ago. However, when a one-night stand with a tattooed bombshell leads to a treasure map for the long-buried Rebecca’s Bounty, the call to action is too strong to ignore. All Las Vegas cocktail waitress Josie Winarsky wants to do is paint. But when she lands smack dab in the middle in a mob plot, she has to push aside her dreams to find a treasure in Dry Creek, Nebraska and save her family from harm. With Sam at her side and a Vegas loan shark on her tail, the treasure she finds turn out to be much more valuable than emeralds and rubies. This book is intended for Adults 18+
My Review:

First off this book is definitely for 18+ as the romance scene are described in great detail.

At first the book started out okay but a bit slow for me. The book didn't really grab me until just about half way through and then I was hooked I couldn't put it down. We follow the main character, Josie as she was getting ready to finish up her last shift at the casino in Vegas. Josie met this very handsome man Sam in Vegas that night and had a one night stand. She found out he was from the same small town (Dry Creek) that she would be heading to for an Art school.

Before Josie left for Dry Creek she was given an old diary of a girl named Rebecca that lived there and buried a treasure worth maybe millions. Everyone has been looking for this treasure over the years but now Josie had Rebecca's diary and map. Rebecca is related to Sam. This is where it got interesting as Sam figured Josie didn't like him but wanted just his help to find the treasure.

I do not want to give away anymore of the details but Sam does in the end realize how much he actually cares about Josie and how much she cares for him. There really was a lot of passion behind both these main characters all the while a slimy a loan shark was after Josie for Rebecca's Bounty.

Crimson Groves #BookReview

About a week ago I told you about the start of this great book tour beginning and the great giveaway with it. Check out that post and enter the giveaway

The book begins by introducing us to Abbigail Tate (Abby) as we follow her on her way to work. We quickly learn about Abby and a heart breaking relationship, her boyfriend and best friend where found together. That night at work we also learn about her father leaving her when she was young when she receives a very strange phone call from her father.

Abby meets a mysterious handsome guy while she is working the bar that night and he walks her home. The story moves really fast in the beginning and gets right into the vampire life. It had me not wanting to put down the book until I was done. With each page I was trying to guess what would happen next but the ending wasn't what I expected. I don't want to give away the great storyline that Ashley uses but these vampires have very special magic almost like a sorceress.

Ashley's writing style flows together very well and she gives a great balance of detail to what is going on along with great dialogue. Abby was very well written, she is spunky and has a head on her shoulders. Her character is very likeable and I liked her right off the start. I didn’t like Bronx from the time her walked into the bar and was actually very happy to see how his character played out in the book. I did like the relationship that was starting to form between her and Tyler and I am wondering how Ashley will play it out in book 2. I am also interested to learn more about Stone another vampire that Abby met along her travels in Crimson Groves.

This is a great book for anyone who likes to read about vampires, it was very different from the everyday vampire books and will keep you wanting more.

Excerpt from Cursed Heroes #Book Tour

Last Wednesday I post about Cursed Heroes, The Beginnings book by William D. Ollivierre and today I wanted to share an excerpt from I am Darkness - Cursed Heroes Power House:

The second sun finial began to set, I looked over the entire area and found just were I would fight the battle and prepaid myself. Sitting at the entrance to the lunch zone waiting for the creatures, my trap should be warring off in a few minutes. I turned and looked behind me and I watched the sun set.

I feel my powers awaken as my eyes went black I smiled, I was ready. I turned back as the night rushes over me, dark and cold consuming every part of me the moon light is bight but yet it was dark. The stench of blood is pungent in the air as the braze brushes across my face. I see them approaching from the distance getting closer and closer. The smell of blood is coming from their blood soaked claws. I wondered what they had killed but it didn’t matter. They soon spotted me and began to circle me, pushing me back slowly, into a corner without even knowing it they were doing just what I had planned. Their eyes glow a dark red, the chill of evil intent filled the atmosphere like static making the hair on my skin stand on end. The light from the moon faded, all that remained was their glowing red eyes piercing through the darkness. My eyes slowly close as I awaited my faith; they lunge forward with their attack claws first ready to rip me to pieces. “Active Nannies one hundred present.”

Purchase - Kindle / Paperback

Review:

At first I was a bit surprised at the amount of pages in this book - less than 100 but when I started reading and got through the first couple pages I was hooked. One thing I would love to have seen was this as a full novel not just a novella.

This book follows Lara while she tells us about her life with her movie star husband and lack of sex life. This is not a YA book as it has a lot of very erotic scenes, make you really feel what they are feeling and doing.

I really fell in love with the characters in the book and the author did a wonderful job getting the reader hooked on the story from the start. She gave enough details on what was going on but not too much to drag the book on. The connection between Lara and Kristian were amazing and you could feel the love that they grew together.  I would love to see more from these two characters and I look forward to the next book in the series.

If you want a quick and exciting adult love story this is definitely a book you should check out.

Marvelous Menu for Sept 9-15th, 2012

Time to get back to regular routines now that summer is over. One routine that I need to get back to fast is menu planning. I find without it I am lost and wondering what's for dinner, also getting overwhelmed with the same old same old food. With our menu plans I find we are more likely to try something different and I can get dinner on the table with less hassle and stress. Also with menu planning as the flyers come out you can also save some money on your grocery bills.

Sunday - Sausages, curly fries & Salad

Monday - Homemade Waffles with fruit & yogurt

Tuesday - Fish, rice with side salad

Wednesday - Vegetable Pasta and Sausage Toss

Thursday - BBQ Porkchops with Spanish Rice (Dora & Diego Cookbook pg 94) changing it up to potatoes and salad as I forgot to buy more rice.

Friday - Jump Across the River Rocks (Dora & Diego Cookbook pg 66)

Saturday - Attending a wedding - no cooking for me!

That is it for this week. Simple meals but less stress when I have them all planned and shopped for. What is on your menu?

Back on Track

With all the fun of summer and I would say we had a pretty good summer this year. We kept very busy and the weather was awesome! I will admit I slacked on a lot of things - baking (it was just too hot to even think about baking!), keeping the house organized, meal planning (oops this I don't have an excuse for), and food related/personal posts on the blog.

With fall creeping in on us, brrr yesterday was cold, I will be getting back to routines. I spent a good chunk of yesterday cleaning and organizing our livingroom with the kids. It looks 10 times better for sure! We now have a HUGE box full of toys to sort and sell/donate. Next up is the dinning/craft room. I am trying to work room by room purging things we don't need anymore and really down sizing our things. I have a friend who uses the word minimalist, I think this is where we would like to be. If we can it will be a lot easier when we go to move.

I really need to keep on my daughter for putting away her toys when she is done playing or moving on to the next thing. Also she has been horrible with paper, leaving her crafting everywhere! You should have seen the big huge bag of recycling that I have from her drawings.

On the blog I would love to get back to posting my meal plans for the week. I am thinking instead of Monday's, I will post it on Friday as we do our shopping over the weekends and the sales usually start Friday here in Ontario.

During the summer my food blog - Marvelous Mommy Meals was merged into Genuine Jenn. You can get to all food related posts including past meal plans by clicking on the tab at the top - Marvelous Mommy Meals. I would like to get back to posting 1 or 2 food related posts a week, including cookbook reviews.

Don't forget to enter the Old El Paso dinner kit giveaway! It is open to Canadians and ends on September 18th, 2012 at 12:01 am EST.

What would you like to see food related? I am working on a post about where we like to get quick and easy recipes. I will also be trying out some fall baking/cooking as the weather gets cooler. I am looking for new slow cooker recipes and maybe even find a favorite new cookbook for the fall.

Happy Sunday!

Since having children I can’t really say I have sat down and read a full book from cover to cover, for myself. I have read tons of children’s books, cookbooks and some magazines. It has been really good to sit down and enjoy my first full novel for myself in a long time.

With that said here is my review of The Lust Garden. I will try not to give too much away with my review. To be honest I only skimmed the blurb for this book before receiving it but was intrigued by the cover. I jumped right into the first chapter not really knowing what to expect.

This is Billy Jolie's first novel and I really enjoyed his writing, it is a lot different then some of the more recent books I have read. At first I was a bit confused on how the first couple chapters started out and who was who. A few chapters in I realized how everyone was connected except this one man that was referred to as the Loin. He was a mystery throughout the book popping up here and there. I was kept interested throughout the book wanting to know more about Gianna, Vance and Rachyl, they were sort of involved in a love triangle until Zak walked into the picture, a dark and handsome British bloke. Zak was working with Gianna on her upcoming album. The books follows the life of entertainers, showing a really raw side of the entertainment business.

I didn't really like most of the characters as it was hard to relate to their path in life but it was also hard not to like Gianna by the end of the book. I was actually thrown off on how the book ended and I am still thinking I would have liked to see it end a different way. I was almost on the right line with the Loin closer to the end of the book which I liked how Billy had kept his readers in suspense. It definitely kept me on my toes to find out how/who this character was.

All in all I did enjoy this book and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a bit of a drama, thriller, and romance.
