Trip to the Orchard

This past September we picked a beautiful sunny and warm Saturday and took the kids apple picking at a local apple orchard. Kilmarnock Orchard has been in operation for over 80 years. They have over 25 varieties of apples on 15 acres of land. The orchard has been owned by the Belot family since 1981. Both hubby and I used to visit as children ourselves.

I love picking fresh fruit. There is just something about picking ripe tasty apples in the fall. Really brings the fall memories back. Store bought are just not the same. Same goes with Strawberries and also pumpkins.
We headed out to the orchard and spent a good couple hours picking a ½ bushel and riding on the tractor train around the orchard. They even have swings and a bean bag toss that my children seemed to love! The kids had a ton of fun running from tree to tree looking for the best apples to add to our bag. It was definitely a great way to spend an afternoon with the whole family.
We have been enjoying our fresh orchard apples for a few weeks now in many different forms – sliced apples with sugar and cinnamon, apple pancakes, apple slices with peanut butter to dip in and apple turn overs. Yum! If you are ever in the area in the fall you should check out the Kilmarnock Orchard, if pick your own isn't your thing they do have The Apple Shoppe with different sizes of baskets and apple products from jams to pies!
We didn’t get to pick apples or strawberries the last couple years being so busy with work and life. I was very happy to get out and do this as a nice family outing this year. Next on the agenda the pumpkin patch and maybe even a haunted house/maze this year. I love fall for the great harvests – apples, pumpkins and squash!

  1. I took my kiddies to the Apple Orchard this fall too - so much fun! Apple Picking is so easy, I think I could do it all day and it's amazing how quickly you can pick a large amount. I was joking that I should send my kids to the Orchard to work, picking apples - even at 3 and 6, they were expert apple pickers :) Cute photos!
