Embarking on a Journey of Good Health

For the last week or so I have been reading on almost all the blogs I follow how the writer is wanting good health and how they will be working towards it. I too want to be healthy and I want to live a long healthy life.

I have a long family history of Heart and Stroke on both my mother's and father's sides of the family. To make matter worse I also lost my father 6 years ago after his struggle with 3 heart attacks, a stroke and cancer. Those were tough times for just over 10 years, my father died when he was 58 years old. A lot of people I know get mad at me if I say anything about getting healthy or losing a few pounds, they always say you don't have anything to worry or complain about. Most do not know or think about why I want to be healthy. Most of the time I don't complain about my weight I am usually happy with myself. Sometimes I have slips in healthy eating and I know I can improve the eating habits more than I have over the past 4 years.

I found out when I was 27 that I had extremely high cholesterol. My doctor felt this was from family history of heart problems. My LDL or "bad" cholesterol was through the roof and my doctor wanted it fixed RIGHT away. I didn't get the chance to eat healthier or exercise more, there I sat in his office as he handed me a prescription for a cholesterol medication that I will be on for life. He tried to make me feel better with the at least you will live past 40 but I wasn't a happy camper at 27 to be on a cholesterol medication.

Just recently I made a switch in my work position so I would endure less stress on the job. The downside was less sleep. I have also found out the other downside is the weight gain for working overnights and my eating habits being all over the place. In less than 2 months I have gained 7 pounds. Yes, I know that isn't that much but to me it is a big deal. Most of the weight gain has been in my middle. I first noticed my pants being a bit snug then my t-shirts now I am on a mission to lose those pesky 7 lbs and not gain anymore. I want to work on getting rid of the extra weight on my tummy.

My journey to better health will be to eat well and add in exercise of any sort as I have not been moving enough the last couple of months. As I don't have any time for the gym I will use my Wii (any good fit games you like?) as my means of work out at the moment until the nice weather comes and I can get out walking again.

Are you on a journey for better health? I would love to read your posts please leave them in the comments below. Thanks and good luck with your goals!
