Review: BookSpeak! Poems about Books by Laura Purdie Salas

BookSpeak! Poems about Books is a wildly wacky book filled with whimsical poems about books. Written by Laura Purdie Salas and illustrated by Josee Bisaillon (who is Canadian!) this book is a really fun book to get young readers interested in poems and reading.

The illustrations are bright and fun, some even look like they are 3D paper like. Something on the lines of scrapbooking. My daughter and I have had fun reading a poem or two here and there, usually right before bed or she will bring out the book to flip through and look at all the pictures.

All the poems are short and cute like this one called Hydrophobiac

I swallow up dragons and cannons and wars.
I don't fear old mansions with slow, creaking doors.
I quite like the dark- murky midnight's no threat.
The one thing I fear is the feeling of ----
wet!
When puddles attack me or raindrops are sprinkled,
they leave me quite soggy- they turn me all wrinkled!
