Crock-Pot is Celebrating 40 Years!

We are a very busy family, always on the go with the children or work. I don't have a lot of time to spend in the kitchen on most days. I wish I did as I love to cook but at the same time don't we all just feel like popping something in the oven or microwave from time to time.

Why not throw or dump I should say your dinner into a Crock-Pot, set the timer and walk away? I have a few go to recipes we love to use our Crock-Pot for - soups, chili, ham just a few we love. I have even spent a day prepping meals into freezer bags and then filling my freezer with meals that can be dumped into a Crock-Pot for quick and stress free dinners.

I have always had a Crock-Pot since living on my own. I started out with just a small pot, I believe it is a 4 Qt. I still have it if you would believe, about 8 years later.

I was recently was asked if I would like to review the new Crock-Pot Designer Series 6 Qt pot. You don't have to ask me twice, like I said we love our Crock-Pot.

The new Designer Series are very cool as they feature a sleek brushed stainless steel design with a programmable cooking timer. Set your timer and walk away, if you wont be home in time don't worry as the cooking timer will turn over to the keep warm setting so not to dry out your food. Yay! No more rushing to make it home to turn off the Crock-Pot manually. The handles fold down into the sides of the pot and the cord can be pushed in when stored (nice feature for sure!)
More features of the Crock-Pot Designer Series:
  • One Touch Control
  • Rectanglar 6 quart slow cooker good for up to 7 people
  • Four convenient time settings - programmable 4-10 hour
  • Automatically shifts to keep warm when cooking is done
  • Button controls and countdown timer
  • Dishwasher safe stoneware
  • Gasketed lid
  • Model #SCCPTP600P

We also had the joy of reviewing - Crock-Pot *The Original Slow Cooker* Slow Cooker Recipes cookbook with over 190 recipes. This book is a great book for beginners as it includes ton of easy to follow directions, ingredients we all know the name of. It also includes a quick intro to using a slow cooker. The recipes are divided into sections -
  • Best Loved Dishes,
  • Entertaining Appetizers,
  • Crowd Pleasures,
  • Quick Dinners,
  • Cooking Across America,
  • Beyond the Basic Soups,
  • Weeknight Winners,
  • Simple Sides,
  • Winter Warm-ups
  • Spring & Summer Sensations
  • Easy -Bake Cakes & Breads
  • How Sweet It is and
  • Sublime Sipping
We tried out the Country Captain Chicken which was very easy to put together. I think it was about 20 minutes of prep time and then it was in the pot for the rest of the afternoon. If you have a chance you can always make your meal before and leave it in the fridge until you are almost ready to turn on the Crock-Pot. I also doubled this recipe to add more chicken into it and have left overs. This was very simple to do. The chicken turned out very tasty, it has a big taste of curry but it wasn't spicy. I served this over a bed of rice and everyone enjoyed this dish. I look forward to trying out more meals. (Sorry everyone was so hungry I forgot to take pictures..oops)

  4. awesome giveaway! My favorite crockpot meal is pulled pork. We cook it with water and onion. When done, take out pork, shred, and dump out leftover water. Add pork and BBQ sauce back and heat up. My family loves it!

Since I'm vegetarian, I'm just starting with experiments, and a second crockpot would be perfect for our family!
