Do you read E-Books?

I was an avid reader until having two babies at home and not a lot of time for myself. Instead I opted for reading magazines, cookbooks and blogs. I am not an avid T.V watcher anymore and I don't follow a series each week. I do like to catch up on shows I love here and there. Mostly on my overnights as I work cleaning the house I work in.

I really want to get back to reading more novels, non-fiction and fiction. I tried my hand at e-books about a year ago and couldn't really get into sitting at a computer to read for long periods, plus I didn't have a mobile computer just a desktop PC. Now that I have a netbook and I am waiting on a Tablet to arrive any day now, I am going to try again with e-reading.

I love the concept of e-books, as you can always have books on hand where ever you go. It is lighter to travel with e-books but you need a reader or netbook that has a battery that will last longer than an hour. My poor netbook last about an hour - hour and a half. My new tablet is suppose to be

Now that I am a new e-book reader I will be looking at all the available programs to use on my netbook and tablet (as soon as it arrives). There are many available on the web. Here are the top three I want to check out first - Kindle for PC, Mobipocket Reader, and the Sony Reader.

If you have any that you love please let me know, I am looking for something I can manage e-books into a collection, by genre, author etc, be able to bookmark and highlight. I also want to be able to read PDF books. I have heard good things about Mobipocket and will be checking this one out this week.

Watch for some fun reviews, giveaways, and more!

  1. I haven't gotten into the e-reading thing myself. I'm just too much a lover of books, I can't get over the idea of not buying a physical book from a book store yet... hahaha. However, I see the allure and understand that when traveling or, as a busy mom, it would be easier to have an e-reader with you, loaded with books but thin and light to transport (and I suppose less fear of losing your page when the kids interrupt your reading and you don't have time to pop in a book mark!).

So, perhaps one day when I reach motherhood or some other time I will move forward to e-reading, too. I'll look forward to hearing about your recommendations as you explore it. For now, I'm just not ready to give up my real books! haha.

  2. I do read print books but absolutely love my Sony eReader. I take it with me everywhere (for those times I have spare minute to read). You can leave the eReader in Sleep Mode for three days (not that a cold start up takes that long) and the battery lasts at least three weeks before needing charging.

Ms.Key - It has taken me a lot to get to the e-reading. I love the physical books, the feel and smell. It is so hard to move from it but there are some great pros to e-reading once we can handle not having a book in our hands. :)

Rhonda - I have heard good things about the Sony e-reader I hope my new tablet will keep the battery for awhile to keep on sleep mode.
